Hey everyone, I've attempted to look on this and other forums but haven't had any luck. I'm looking to add a solar trickle charger to keep the 12V battery system charged while we're camping. Has anyone wired a trickle charger to the rear Aux battery instead of the one under the hood? I don't want to run a cable through the cab to the hood mounted battery and figured since the main and aux battery aren't isolated it should work? But I can't find any info on if this is possible/safe to do it so I figured I'd ask.

Thanks!

I have not done what you are asking.

Based on what I have seen here, as long as you aren't putting a giant solar charger on that internal battery, the cabling between the Aux and the Starting battery should be able to handle it. I have a 10 amp Noco tied into my Starting battery, which charges the Aux in the cab without any issues.

I have a 10W/12V solar with a maximum 0.5amp output so I doubt it would overtax the smaller battery

You might find a complete kit via Cascadia 4x4. We ran the Jeep Gladiator specific hood panel on our Jeep with their charge controller (as a kit) which resulted in:

- Trickle charging battery (when topped it stopped automatically)
- Dedicated 12v out (charged our EcoFlow Delta power brick which ran our dometic fridge/freezer, heater, coffee maker everything). This alone allowed our family of 4 to be in the woods for well over a week at a time.

They offer universal systems along with just the charge controller etc. It looks like they will be releasing the 13th gen dedicated kit later this year, I assume 14th gen to follow. All hardware was bulletproof, we put 30k miles on that kit before selling the jeep and even the panel still looked new.
