SL All Terrain or E HT Tires?

Picked up my new '24 XLT 2WD with the BAP and though I love the wheels, the stock 265/60/18 tires look way too small in my opinion. Looking to size up to 275/70/18 sooner than later and my options appear to be rather limited in SL category. I don't tow or go offroad, so an E rated tire seems overkill, but there are significantly more options for HT tires in that category. I guess my question is should I go for the lower weight, SL rated all terrains or the 10-15lb heavier E rated HT tires that are regularly available?

I was at the same crossroads as you. I went with E rated because that’s what I had in the past and is popular. However, they are heavier, a firmer ride, and maneuvering more clumsy.After a week of use back they went and opted for SL rated. Turns out they exceed the max payload capability my truck has anyway without all the sacrifices. I went with the Continental Terrain Contact AT SL’s

I recently had E rated 275/70/18’s installed on my new 2024, today they are removing them and I’m getting a set of the new Nitto Terra Grappler G3‘s in SL rated 275/70/18 that weigh 45lbs. I lost 3 mpg going from the 38lb stock tires to a 55lb E rated tire, that’s no bueno.

I went with Continental Terrain Contact H/Ts. Almost got the A/Ts, but decided I spend 99% of the time highway driving. Both seemed like great options.

I had E rated tires on a previous truck and they definitely feel worse. Would only get them if I was towing heavy or really needed them.

I went down the rabbit hole on this same topic. I tow heavy but not often and didn’t want to sacrifice Mpg. Like others said, SL are more than adequate for normal 1/2 ton pickup light use. If I towed more than 5-10% of time I would’ve probably opted for E tires. Just put a set of Cooper Road and Trail 275 60 20 on my truck and they are completely quiet and have a great ride. Already towed my trailer with them and didn’t feel any squishiness or see any excessive squat on rears when loaded. Working great for me so far.

Thanks for all the replies. I was leaning towards the SL's and it seems thats the way to go. If I move up to 270/70/18 I'll go with the Nitto Terra Grappler G3's. I looked and if if I end up going with 265/70/18 then it opens the door to dozens more SL options. Difference is about 1/2" in height, but both are 2+" over my stock size.
