Has anyone seen this happen before? It seems like there was something on the inside holding it on which fell off. Now I have no idea how to put it back on.

looks like the pin on the right broke off. The back of the seat has zippers on each side, you can unzip and maybe access the back side. See if you can find the backing plate.

i tell ya what, i got some nice Lariat seats where you wont ever run into this issue ever again. let me know where we can meet up and do a seat swap ;)

in all seriousness, warranty or investigate by unzipping the seat.

Has a 2021 so long past bumper to bumper warranty. If you don't want to deal with the seat find a good ulpostery shop in the area. Dealer will just farm it out anyway.

Called the dealership and it's $1000 ($500 for me since my sister works there) because they have to replace that entire section of the seat. I tried to access the back of that part when it initially fell off but couldn't get my hand back there. For $500, I just keep trying.

If I wasn't comfortable trying to peel the seat skin off myself (I would give it a shot), then I'd be bringing the truck to an auto upholstery shop to have them fix it. I certainly wouldn't be buying a new seat back to fix it.

You have to pull the cover off to put that back on.

I bet that is held on by push nut retaining clips (push the posts through the leather, then push the retaining clips onto the posts). Looks like one of the posts broke off, but there are three others.

If you can get your hand up inside the seat, get some appropriately sized push nut retaining clips, push the posts back through the holes and push some retaining clips on them.

I'm not 100% sure, but I thought my seat backs (the leather) were Velcro'd all the way down each side and I could literally take the seat back (leather) off.

This is what those clips look like. You just have to get the correct size. If you have a good local hardware store, I bet they have them.

It's actually one giant metal piece of the same profile as the plastic piece that's just shoved over those studs. Rather poor design.

Wouldn't that be floating around inside the seat area then?

Yeah, it's in the seat w/ the broken plastic thing still stuck in it. Might still be in the same location. It's definitely above where the cover attaches to the foam in the upper most location.
