Just purchased a 23 Platinum today. I declined all extended warranties due to the fact that the finance guy raced through all the coverages and plans. Too much info.

What do I need and is it worth it? What about maintenance plans? Would you recommend one? I’m in FL. Does that matter?

Any reason to buy a plan now or should I just wait until the factory plan is up?

A lot of info out there in this subject. Any clarification would be greatly appreciated.

Here is my take on Extended Warranty's, YMMV. I bought a Powerboost and it is one of the most eclectically complicated vehicles that has been produced. I went to Granger and bought me Extended Warranty (EW).

Ford Extended Warranty - Ford Protect (grangerfordextendedwarranty.com)

I have a 4x4 2022 PB 502a with most of the bells and whistles. I do not drive a lot and got a 10 year 100k plan with LED lights for $2400. If I drive this for 10 years and never have a problem instead of cursing that I wasted my money on the plan, I will be glad and happy that I drove a problem free complex truck for 10 years. If that is not the case, then I certainly will be glad I have the extended warranty.

This is not $2000+ for a 30k truck, this is an additional $2.5k for an MSRP truck of over $70k.

For me it is Murphys Law. If I spend the money on the EW that will probably guarantee that the truck will be problem free and I will not need it. Either way it was money well spent IMO.

The warranty options were quite limited and simple when I got my 22 PB XLT: either 3 years 60,000km or 6 years 120,000km. Coverage is bumper to bumper, so considering the amount of driving my family does and the complexity of PBs I felt extended warranty was the best bang for my buck. I didn't consider, and wasn't offered any maintenance plans.

FL is unique in that anyone selling a warranty be licensed in this state to be able to sell to a FL resident and they have to pay a fee to FL to issue it. For the most part once you give your FL address you won’t be able to buy/use any of the plans offered by Granger or Ziegler etc.
‘You have plenty of time as you can buy extended warranties anytime during the regular one with no penalty in cost. I personally will never buy one as I never keep a vehicle long enough to use that stuff and I can work on my own stuff so just a waste of money.
So yea you have to buy in FL at a dealer here and more than likely pay more.

FL statute I think this is the one that covers it.

Thank you all this is helpful along with the FL info. So if I buy an extended warranty from ford is it any “better” than the 36k bumper to bumper one that I currently have? Does it include anymore or any less?

And what about maintenance? Are there any ford plans for regular maintenance?

During the 3yr/36k miles OE coverage period there is no meaningful added benefit in having a Ford ESP. There are a very few additional coverage items available (e.g. rental car IF available) but IMO not worth the cost. 99.9999% of your claims during that period will be made against the OE 3/36 warranty, NOT any ESP you might have (during the 3/36 period both will be in effect).

NOTE - the Ford ESP does NOT cover everything covered by the OE bumper-to-bumper coverage; the ESP does not cover minor adjustments and 'aesthetic' defects which may be covered during the B-to-B period. This post with an example of the Ford ESP Contract may be of interest (read it carefully).

The real value in a Ford ESP is for protection in case of a component defect AFTER the OE 3/36 coverage.

IMO you should only purchase a Ford ESP for the miles and duration that you realistically expect to own the vehicle (so, if less than 3/36, don't buy one).

IMO there are two possible reasons to buy a Ford ESP at or near time of purchase rather than delaying until just before your 3/36 expiration window
  1. History tells us that, all other things being equal, the cost of plans increases with inflation over time
  2. IF you get a very favorable finance rate on the vehicle loan (e.g. 0%APR as I did) you can roll the cost of a Ford ESP into your financing. Any advantage in that may be lost if the dealer prangs you on the cost of the ESP (as many will try to do).
Can't help but comment that living in FL really hampers your ESP-buying competitive / negotiating options, but it is what it is.

I'm with others who have stated they (I) would never buy any extended warranty other than the Genuine Ford PremiumCare ESP.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Yes extremely helpful! I’m glad I didn’t rush into things yesterday and purchase one from out of state. Speedy Gonzales in finance was making my head spin with all the plans and offers.

So in FL I won’t be able to “shop around” for this plan if I want it correct? All will be priced the same?

Any reputable seller would have denied the sale upon hearing your location is FL.

I believe that even in FL a dealer can, IF the want, negotiate the price they charge for an ESP, so there may be advantage in 'shopping' (I would certainly try); but they have less incentive to compete with prices offered by some of the deepest-discounting out-of-state dealers like Granger Ford.

Good luck.

I keep my trucks for years.
I think the least amount of time I’ve kept one is 15,
Hell, I still have the one I bought new 44 yrs ago ( retired it 10 yrs ago), and my weekend transport is a 98 k1500 and a backup.

I bought the warranties on these because I keep them so long, and I maintain that there is a dip switch inside all vehicles that will turn off the “self destruct” at factory warranty end.

Some dealer will see the warranty at some service interval and flip that switch so everything stays intact.

when I bought my 21 XLT, I bought the 8/100,000 with all options except lighting
(My truck is all halogen and self serviceable)
So far, nothing too bad has taken out of commission, but still has open recalls for wipers and the wiper cowling is becoming distorted and warped.
I will take it in next weekend for that and get appointment for drop off.
I am still under 3 yrs and almost 36k

Bottom line; how much do you really like paying for any insurance? I hate it, but a necessary evil in life. I’ve never spent a dime on any extended warranties on anything and when my financial adviser found out when I was asked, he said one word; GOOD!

FORD OEM ESP (FORD PROTECT) or nothing!

A lot of points covered in previous posts.

I bought mine from Zeigler Ford (online). they have pretty good pricing. Their staff is very good to work with. Bob Cline made a promo code a few years ago for forum members, and it still works. the promo code is "PAYINFULL", and it will deduct $250 off the online pricing.

There was an announcement on the webpage that FORD is hiking the FORD PROTECT prices after Oct 4th. So, if you are thinking about or are on the fence about getting an ESP, might be a good time. Who knows what the price hike will be. i'm sure it will negate any discounted price you'll get Oct 5th and on.

No need to be hurried.
You have time to do your own due diligence on the ESP parameters that fit your scenario best.

There are restrictions for ESP's sold in FL. Since the state regulates them as "insurance".
You'd have to ask who ever you are interested in if they'd sell you one.

Yeah, the price doesn't go up until 12,000 miles or 12 months, and last I read it was $200 more.
Unfortunately, you can't avoid a price hike from FORD!
