So I have a 302a XLT with the remote release tailgate, but I was wondering if it would eventually be possible to somehow add/convert my tailgate to the power up and power down found on the higher trim levels?

and if it can be done would all would be needed?

It didn't make sense they only did power unlock on the xlt 302a. I am hoping for the same thing you are.

I would think it is an electric actuator hidden in the fender that raises and lowers the tail gate. Probably connects where the shock connects to slow the opening down. If the wires are there and your able to change the programming of any modules with Forscan is the other question.

I agree, they should have at least made it an option on the XLT’s since they gave them push button start with tailgate release

That’s what I’m thinking now that you mentioned it. I’m hoping someone else can chime in

Zyvin, is there any way you can pull up the replacement procedure for those parts in the workshop manual?

That’s perfect. I wish it had part numbers
The part numbers won't help you. The internals of the tailgate are different. You'd be better off buying the motorized tailgate off a wrecked truck. But then you'd have to figure the wiring and FORSCAN changes.

I'm not saying it can't be retrofitted. But it won't be cheap or easy.

I didn’t think k the internals would be different, I thought the locations for those parts would be there already, but I can definitely see what you’re saying

I could if I didn’t have a real job that has nothing to do with Ford trucks taking up all my time, lol.

Below is the motor R2. If you already have remote release, I would assume you have the latches and control module already???
