First off, a huge thank you to everyone on this forum for helping me figure out what to order! No way in hell the dealership would have had any clue about the details that this forum provided (especially towing stuff). I main priority for me was enough luxury (leather seats, technology stuff) with as much payload as feasible for towing, and powerboost for boondocking with my trailer. So I went with the attached build and I think it's a very nice sweet spot, again I would not have ordered the right truck for me without this website and Granger for giving me an awesome starting point for the price! I ended up at $59,600 ($60,200 w/$600 rebate) which I think is a great price at $8k under MSRP. Hopefully there's some better rebates at the time of delivery.
I actually ordered my truck around mid January, but had such a sh1tty experience with the dealership, I wasn't sure (nor had confidence) that my order was actually placed and was moving forwards. Long story short, I was trying so hard to spend money and they were making it very difficult. My sales guy was a rookie that knew nothing about the truck or ordering one. They messed up the build several times, gave me pricing that they then renegged on, couldn't get emails with status, went in multiple times in person to get it done and couldn't....just insane, was ready to walk away but we finally got it all sorted out. Now 2-3 weeks later, I tried to get a hold of people to get status and couldn't.
I finally called the GM of the whole dealership to explain my frustrations and get answers. He was very pleasant, understanding and found what happened unacceptable. He told me over the phone, that (magically today) the truck was "order was accepted for a build date" or "scheduled to be built" (can't remember the exact terms). Knowing what I learned from this forum, I questioned if there was a VIN. No, no VIN yet, but he said that because the order was accepted, that we should have a vin in the next week or two. I don't know how much of this to believe? Does this sound like how the process works before getting a VIN? I dunno, but I have direct contact with the GM, so if I don't hear anything in a week or so, I'll call back. So HOPEFULLY this is true and it's not too far away from being built.
What's everyone think? Am I being blown smoke to get calmed down? I wonder if he knows he can prioritize it into one of their build slots to get it moving when it wasn't before?
