Just finished a Christmas Road Trip from East Central Florida to NM, to see the family then up to UT, CO and back through the central US to enjoy some western scenery. Left Florida before Christmas (17th) early in the morning in a driving rain from that cold front that blew thru. Had a very strong headwind (20mph+) and wet highway all the way to Pensacola before there was a break. side note; BackFlip 4 kept all the suitcases quite dry in the bed.
Great trip thru the southern route all the way to the family's home in southern NM. I have to say, the Texas Hill Country is absolutely beautiful. Spent a few days with the family then off to northern NM where the snow started and the high desert and Mountains then on to Utah and Colorado. This '23 PB performed flawlessly, couldn't have asked for any better performance, even in the high mountain passes and back roads heading to Rocky Mountain Nat Park. Standard AT-2 tires performed very good throughout the trip even in the high mountains and snow, but I never over drove them. The PB has all the drive options you'll need to get through many of these inclement weather areas.
Morning temps in the mountains ranged from -5 to 5 degrees, no problems with starting or any battery issues in that cold weather at all. Couldn't have been happier and it was a real pleasure to drive this truck on long distances. As for the particulars, you can see from the attached photo we drove over 5400 miles and I'll say in total comfort. Maintained the speed limit for most of the trip, kept 72-73, sometimes slightly more where there were 75 mph speed limits. In TX, CO & KS, kept it around 75-78, sometimes slightly more where the speed limit was 80 mph.
Computations for MPG was total miles driven divided by total fuel used to the tenth. I used 87 Octane in ALL states, including UT, CO and KS, never did/wouldn't use 85. Total fuel cost was $647 (like the IRS, rounded to nearest dollar
) for the entire trip, while the truck's lie-o-meter said 21.5 mpg, my computations came out to 22.5...now I would give that an error rate ~.3-.5 since I only calculated the fuel to the nearest 10th, not 100th. Still, even at 22.0, pretty satisfied with the overall numbers especially with the winter weather we encountered. All in all, one heck of a machine. Cheers all, now for an oil change.
