Just finished a Christmas Road Trip from East Central Florida to NM, to see the family then up to UT, CO and back through the central US to enjoy some western scenery. Left Florida before Christmas (17th) early in the morning in a driving rain from that cold front that blew thru. Had a very strong headwind (20mph+) and wet highway all the way to Pensacola before there was a break. side note; BackFlip 4 kept all the suitcases quite dry in the bed.

Great trip thru the southern route all the way to the family's home in southern NM. I have to say, the Texas Hill Country is absolutely beautiful. Spent a few days with the family then off to northern NM where the snow started and the high desert and Mountains then on to Utah and Colorado. This '23 PB performed flawlessly, couldn't have asked for any better performance, even in the high mountain passes and back roads heading to Rocky Mountain Nat Park. Standard AT-2 tires performed very good throughout the trip even in the high mountains and snow, but I never over drove them. The PB has all the drive options you'll need to get through many of these inclement weather areas.

Morning temps in the mountains ranged from -5 to 5 degrees, no problems with starting or any battery issues in that cold weather at all. Couldn't have been happier and it was a real pleasure to drive this truck on long distances. As for the particulars, you can see from the attached photo we drove over 5400 miles and I'll say in total comfort. Maintained the speed limit for most of the trip, kept 72-73, sometimes slightly more where there were 75 mph speed limits. In TX, CO & KS, kept it around 75-78, sometimes slightly more where the speed limit was 80 mph.

Computations for MPG was total miles driven divided by total fuel used to the tenth. I used 87 Octane in ALL states, including UT, CO and KS, never did/wouldn't use 85. Total fuel cost was $647 (like the IRS, rounded to nearest dollar ;)) for the entire trip, while the truck's lie-o-meter said 21.5 mpg, my computations came out to 22.5...now I would give that an error rate ~.3-.5 since I only calculated the fuel to the nearest 10th, not 100th. Still, even at 22.0, pretty satisfied with the overall numbers especially with the winter weather we encountered. All in all, one heck of a machine. Cheers all, now for an oil change.

Thanks for the trip report. Planning on ordering a 2024 XLT PB. Do you have a bed cover on your truck? Wondering what impact that might have on your MPG.

Best road trip land yacht ever.
I really enjoy reading someone with a fresh Powerboost experience. Especially if it was delivered without any serious gremlins.

Sounds like a great trip, and yeah, the Texas Hill Country is nice. But you visited quite a few picturesque places.

Your welcome Alex and yes, I have a BakFlip flush bedcover but not sure what impact it had on my MPG....but most on here told me to expect ~.1 to .3 MPG increase, again depending on driving habits. I did have a smorgasbord of weather on this trip that I'm sure impacted my MPG but absolutely loved my PB on this trip....Cheers

Thanks Bruce, knock on wood...only issues I had were previously posted on here with a couple of battery no starts but haven't had any issues since. Truck (land yacht) performed flawlessly, couldn't have been happier.

As for scenery, yes sir, gobs of it...we've been through the Hill Country many times on our jaunts out west to see family and we always plan a day/night there, Fredericksburg area. We'll put close to 20K/yr traveling this beautiful country. And you're correct, we saw some fabulous scenery in NM, UT and CO in various types of weather. I couldn't have been happier with the truck and its performance....Here's a photo at Berthoud Pass (11,380') looking back on Winter Park, Colorado. CHEERS!

Nice report! Did you use winter tires or stick to the stock ones?

Thanks Christarpher, I used the stock Hankook AT-2's that came with the truck. As I said, I didn't have any issues in the snow or ice but was careful not to overdrive them and always used caution when encountering icy conditions and wouldn't try anything extreme. If I lived in the high country, I would probably get an appropriate set...living in Florida, these stock tires are fine and no complaints, however, I will purchase a set of Michelins when a new set is due....CHEERS!

It’s crazy how much tires affect your MPG. I do mainly highway driving, and I’m lucky if I get 500 miles out of a tank. Bought the truck about 3 months ago and it has 305/55 BFGoodrich Baja Champions.

For sure Travis, I'm not one for total off roading but will take some serious forest service roads for hunting and fishing trips and these tires still fill the bill....but ride comfort and low noise of these all-purpose tires are the priority for me these days.....CHEERS!

What a great narrative of your trip in a PB. I particularly enjoyed the fact that you were on my neck of the woods… West Texas, New Mexico, and Colorado. I love the southwest! Anyway, I agree the PB is a pleasure to drive. Late last year, I drove mine from Cleveland, Ohio to Albuquerque, New Mexico. My average speed may have been 80-85mph. ? It was a very quick trip!
