Update.... I checked again today and the only code is now P2C22 for the Exhaust Heat Exchanger Bypass Valve 'A' Position Sensor Circuit

Just hit a week with my truck in the shop but got some good news today. Parts ordered today and will be in Friday- so apparently no more shortage. They also found a leak in my rear sliding window that I wasn’t aware of and will be fixing that too. Hopefully I’ll have some good news at the end of the week.

I would not contact Ford again if it happened to me. I think they slowed my response down. Your mileage may vary though.



I would think a picture and part # would help, but it seems it's more common to have a "failure to communicate". (Monty Python - Holy Grail - The prince is not to leave the tower scene.)

When folks have said "contact Ford" is there a specific group or is it the Customer Relationship Center?

The SEL cleared itself - but the code was still resident in ECU 1. Had it in for an early oil change yesterday. No mention of the code from them even when I told them. "No codes were stored when the tech was plugged into the vehicle". Plugged in the code reader as soon as I got home - Still resident in ECU 1. Wrote it off to exceptional cold (-17F) and short trips. Cleared it.

This morning I left the truck running while salting my driveway - it was a balmy 25F, the truck was at operating temperature prior to the long idle (20 minutes) - hopped in to move it and the SEL light was back on. P237C.

Engine temp had dropped to just above the first barely warm line. Still no leak that I've seen. Driving it back in today to get the code noted before my service appt next year....in March.

I called the customer care number, the initial few folks I talked to seemed like they just took down notes and information.

It wasn’t until the next day I had an actual person assigned to help resolve the issue.

Just got my truck back and not feeling great about it. Either I had a different problem with the same symptoms (unlikely) or I am going to have my light back on soon and be in for another appointment.

My dealership didn’t replace my heat exchanger, which is most likely why they were able to get parts so quickly but replaced a part of my exhaust pipe- 5236A which appears to be the part below. They also are relating my puddle to a leak in my back window that still is waiting on parts.

Driveway is wet with snow so wont be able to tell if there is a leak for a couple days but will be watching closely for my light and the same DTCs.

Howdy all. Joining y'all here with the same issue. I've read a bunch of posts here, but hadn't read this thread... Prior to actually seeing evidence (the puddle, and coolant leaking down a bolt) I caught the smell of coolant a few times. Looked under the hood and under the front of the truck and never saw any signs. When it finally came to a head, I was on the way back from a nearby errand and got the "pro power onboard disabled" message. Then the fans kicked on high, and temp gauge showed a temp that got up to 248 F. The gauge never got red like some of y'all have seen. Nor did I get any check engine lights.

Called a half dozen dealers to bring it in. Several said it would be a week or longer before they would even look at it. The longest was 2 weeks. WTF. 2 days was the fastest so I took it there. That was last Wednesday (1.04). Got to the office and started searching and here we are.

The service guy bs'd me on Friday afternoon about it being a coolant tank. We talked. He got back with me yesterday (Monday 1.09) morning. They ordered the part, but they don't know when they might get it.

Just had my heat exchanger fix done. They didn’t replace the exchanger, but did replace the lines. I’m assuming that will be the fix going forward and the culprit for early repairs to fail.

I don't think all leaks are equal.
Changing the lines is not going to address a leak that's internal to the heat exchanger itself.

How do we determine if the exchanger is dripping coolant into the exhaust? It is unlikely to be as pronounced as what you'd normally look for in a coolant to combustion chamber leak, so the signs may be far more subtle. Until we know where exactly these things are failing, I presume that being on guard against "driveway puddle" and "barely perceptible coolant smell to exhaust" as equally likely.

Long term, I really want a water to water heat exchanger that warms the low temp loop from the high temp loop.....so much less to go wrong that way. I am holding out hope that somebody will build one.
