Next month will be a complete year with my 2023 Powerboost. Although I haven't had any major problems, I'm not completely sold on this one. I'm really hoping that Ford will make a better hybrid version by 2027. I know mine is a Powerboost, and I appreciate the extra power. But I'm hoping for a more reliable hybrid version. Let me know what you're thinking about the future of the Powerboost "Hybrid ".?

I would bet on it. The problem with electrification is that the technology is advancing rapidly. Ford came out with the PB that has a small battery and “weak-ish” motor. Now Ram is coming out with their version with stronger motor and battery. I suspect the ’27 PB will have a much bigger battery and stronger motor.

IMHO

I've got 2 of them and they've both been flawless, unless I want to let the OTA shortcomings spoil the party.

Sure, I'm looking forward to V2, but I have zero regrets so far. Best 1/2 ton truck I have ever owned. And by a considerable margin.

I guess with reading all the negative things, I'm worried about the long haul. How do you normally keep your trucks?

I've got a 2012 F150 with 110,000 and a 2017 Transit family van at just under 190,000.
Neither of my Powerboost are high mileage though.
There IS a member here with 90,000 miles on his Powerboost and hasn't had an issue beyond the factory AGM needing to be replaced.

They aren't fragile. They are F150 3.5 Ecoboost with a traction motor inserted into the 10r80 transmission, and an Itty bitty High Voltage battery under the cab.

Ford has been building Hybrids for a long time.

That's encouraging

Could a motor run with cylinder deactivation idling in generator mode?
I could see that being a selling point for fuel savings.

I'm really surprised Ford hasn't matched up the 2.7 to a hybrid yet, but I expect that to be coming in future. Better fuel economy and good fit for the Ranger with Powerboost branding.

I do hope that Ford succeeds and continues the hybrid idea. Toyota was correct 20+ years ago that it is the future of vehicles far more than going full electric.

I can definitely see myself going with a hybrid F-150 in 2033 at my next planned truck upgrade. I was heavily considering it this time around but for my personal usage I wouldn't see enough benefit from the hybrid or generator mode. Needs change and I might have a need for it in future.

Ford does not let the competition out do them in trucks. I bet the 25 sees something, maybe the HO 3.5 from the Raptor again or a higher output Powerboost. The 3.0 Ram truck using the HO engine will also be premium fuel only. Where the Fords don't require premium outside the Raptor. So a 470 / 530 tq H.O. Platinum wouldn't shock me, or update the PB as it's going to basically replace the 3.5 in 24.

The Ranger has now been released as a Hybrid for 2024.
We yanks didn't get the nod though. ?

And they are making the Maverick Hybrid rarer than it was originally. So frustrating. It was the STANDARD drive train originally.

Chips or whatever. ?‍♂

Saw a post online Ford dropped hybrid from Explorer because they need to focus on putting it on police model. High demand with silent idling for hours not running the engine. Definitely fits their use. Our state police have F-150 already wouldn't surprise me if they bought some Powerboost.

I have a 2006 Escape Hybrid bought new. I consider the engineering elegant. It's got 450,000 miles on it and the OEM battery. A key element in battery life is the purity of the cell components, anode, cathode, & electrolyte. I remarked to my dealer shortly after purchase that the Powerboost really ought to have a traction battery twice the capacity of the one installed. But! Keep in mind that the weight and balance of the truck is a key part of the design process. While this battery will only go about 0.8 miles in level electric mode, if you run the truck as a generator its engine on time is small unless you can find a way to run it at a full up 7.2kW continuous.

...And you know, there's another use of these trucks: Consider a dead electric car in the middle of Wyoming... a Powerboost can be rigged easily to give them a charge and get them into town and a charger... I said much the same to our WyDOT Director not so long ago...
