Hi everyone. So just curious, did anyone ever figure out or resolve the issue?
I have a 2022 F150 Limited, purchased 9 days ago and I've had the issue since pickup. It's always been intermittent but now it's getting worse.

Things I've tried:
1. Setting to Manual vs Power tailgate
2. Unlocking, locking, unlocking, trying from the fob, the dash button, the button on the tailgate
3. Trying from the Fob
4. Leaving the door open and trying every way possible
5. Playing with the step and trying to open every way possible

I've got nothing...

The dealer tech said that everything looks good. I showed him the videos, he doesn't know what to replace but said to try again with manual. So after when it wasn't working, i took another video with manual set.

My issue is that we constantly load stuff in the bed, we can't hand bomb them constantly and I can't close the tonneau cover anymore since I'll be completely locked out.

What a bummer, I almost regret trading in my GMC.

Let me know if you guys ever had any solution.
Hello! Will you send us a private message with your VIN and local Ford dealership info? I can look your concern regarding your tailgate on my end.

Do you get then even when manually opening the gate pressing the button on the back?

Mine opens most the time, but if you are getting that, i would tell them to replace the tailgate step sensor in the tailgate. Sounds like it might have gone bad if it won't go down at all.

What I've found is that if my truck sits for 20+ min and the truck "goes to sleep" (not deep sleep), the fob won't open the tailgate anymore. The lights just blink (it may make a sound, but I'm not normally close enough to hear it). I hate it because on my '17 the fob always worked, no matter what. When I'm leaving a store and have a bunch of crap, I would rather open the tailgate and have it waiting than for me to open it.

I have found if I remote start the truck from the fob, the fob will then open the tailgate. It's a hassle, but it works.
Hi Frank,

Thanks for trying to help!

It doesn't work when manually opening the gate (pressing the button on the tailgate). It doesn't work in all three ways, button on the fob, button on the dash or tailgate button.

Sometimes I go back to check 2 or 3 hours later and the tailgate will go down but it will never go back up and the second I manually bring it up, it will never go back down.

I've tried jiggling the step, opening closing but I think you're right. I think it has to do with the step.

I sent videos to the dealership so they can't dispute the existence of the issue. I've asked them to see if they can source the step sensor that you mention, I wonder what they'll say. If I don't get anywhere with them, which I feel like I wont, I'll try another service center or buy the sensors myself. It's just such a shame given the truck was so expensive and has less then 700km's on it...

The dealership I bought from is great from a sales standpoint but are rated the worst, possibly in all of Canada, for service. I used to have a fleet of 14 2016 F150 XLT's with them. We had so many issues with those trucks (electronics, door mechanisms, engine blew up at 15,000kms) and the service was so bad that we ended up leaving them at the end of the lease for GM.

Any other dealers nearby you can go to? I'm sure you're not limited to the dealership you bought it from.

Yes quite a few in Toronto. That would inevitably be the plan but I need to give them more than two weeks to try and figure it out/try to help, before I pull the plug and go somewhere else.

I totally respect that :) You made it sound like they had a bad reputation for service. We have dealers here that suck for sales (And I would never buy from them), but have pretty good service departments. So it's a bit the opposite here.

They have a terrible reputation for service but the General Manager tells me that they're trying to improve now and bring the reputation back up.
You should see the stories online, people getting vehicles back with 100's of extra KM's on them, filthy, missing bolts/screws, tech's being incredibly dismissive and rude to customers, etc. The list really never ends hence why I would never trust to leave my truck there.

I think one of the issues is they sell so much and can't handle the volume in service so try to cut as many corners as possible, a slippery slope.

I'm not saying that the service we had at the other dealerships was top notch either but it was much better than them.

I think I have found the issue to the three beeps and not opening. The tailgate latch is stuck. SO to correct this you need to adjust teh strikers for the tailgate a little so the tailgate doesnt cinch too tight. I had it happen to me the first time ever it was after I adjusted my tailgate to make one side close more.. It was rattling a bit also when closed.

So adjust the strikers out and I bet youll not have that issue any more. Not much but just a little bit

So I have had my 2022 into the dealer 8+ times totaling over 30 days for this issues and a few other intermittent electrical issues. Despite having close to 100 videos of all of the problems, 2 dealers and Ford customer service said there is nothing we can do to solve this since they can not recreate the issues. I have currently hired an attorney to try to help me get this resolved.

Interesting.
So they can’t recreate the issue or they’re just claiming to not be able to?
I went to another dealer, they were much more helpful.
Left it there for a few hours and now need to go back once the parts are in.
Not sure what parts they ordered but I’ll keep everyone updated.

the tailgate is intermittent - mainly just works once and stops after.
Scale Not working
Rear camera has water in it
The tailgate camera is very pixilated (nothing like any of the other ones)
i also had a 12v low battery message thrown the other day. Went for a long drive (most of my drives are 1 hour plus on the highway) and it went away. It’s been a week since it came up.

The first dealer I took it to had the tailgate not work for them once right in front of me, but for some reason they refused to write it up that way. I had some other issues with that dealer so I decided to go to a different dealer. In all the trips to the 2nd dealer they kept saying they could not re-create it, even with the Ford engineers. They replaced the actuator and wire harness in good faith but refused to do anything else after that despite all of my video evidence. The funny thing was every time I drove my truck home from the dealer, it almost would never work for me. On top of that I also have these issues

-I had 2 instances where the 2 key fobs would not work in anyway at all for like 10 minutes.

-The scale reads incorrectly

-Passive entry lock/unlocks intermittently doesn't work

-The main center screen intermittently shut off while driving

- the audio button/system is Intermittently disabled on the main touchscreen display.

-The center screen intermittently will stay on for a few hours with nothing on the display when the truck is off and locked.

I will definitely keep everyone updated as well if I make any progress on a resolution with the tailgate.

How uptodate is your truck?
I wouldn't let anyone tell me that they could or couldn't diagnose the truck until I knew it had every module update available.

I don't know if every module is updated but the dealer stated that they "updated the software on the truck", what ever that means, on the 2nd trip to the dealer. I know it had the integrated trailer brake controller module update and 1 other one done. I checked this morning in settings on the main screen and it stated there were no new updates to download.

Im willling to bet the strikers are to far inwards. Mine beeped three times. It was after I had adjusted striker to close the tailgate more. It had never done it before ever. I moved the sriker back out some and never had it again. The latches are electric Each latch is independant of each other. There is no linkage combining them. They are like the Mercedes doors that pull the door tight whne you close them. It pulls the tailgate in too tight for the latch to release. I had to push in on the tailgate a bit to release it.

Makes sense to me why some have it some dont. Each one is adjusted individually. All you need is a torx driver loosen them move them out a 1/16 inch and see if you still have the issue.

2021 F150 on order
mine also does the beep 3 times on the first press and opens on the second press thing. It doesn't matter if the car is locked or not because I never lock it in my garage and even so when I go to open the tailgate while in my garage to load in the garbage cans on garbage day it always takes two presses. I don't think it was always like this.

My tailgate(not power close) does not open with any combination. When i hit the fob, i get 1 Orange flash from led taillights. Tailgate button does nothing, as well as dash button.
Edit:
I just tried remote start, then tried opening tailgate with locked truck(fob and button on tailgate) and then all 3 buttons with unlocked truck.

i am not getting the 3 flashes or beeps.
