My concern is the new issue of it not even beeping 3 times when using the fob. The lights flash once and it remains closed, locked or unlocked. If it always beeped thrice when locked and opened on the second try, I would call that incredibly stupid, but at least consistent.

My '17 just always opened when I pressed the bottom twice in rapid succession, but this is frustrating how inconsistent it is.

I'll have to try that tonight. I'm not sure i've ever opened the tailgate with the fob, And the fob I have on me has no buttons.

Just note when I'm talking about opening it by pressing buttons twice, I mean with the buttons on my fob. From what I've noticed the button on my tailgate always works (but now that i think of it, maybe it does beep 3 times there once as well. I'll have to check)

I’ve had this issue many times, intermittently. I just went out to test a bunch of locked/unlocked configurations and it worked every time.

I suspect the tailgate step sensor to be the issue

When mine works, it works every time until I walk away and let it fully go to sleep. After 15-20 minutes when it goes fully to sleep is when it can become intermittent. After the 15-20 minutes, if it isn't working when I go back to the truck, no amount of button presses on the fob will make it work. Everything works from the fob like it should, the tailgate itself just doesn't open. If I open a door, the tailgate will immediately start working properly from the fob.

Mine is doing the same thing. Im on my 6th or 7th trip to the dealer to have it resolved. When I picked it top yesterday they said they replaced all of the wiring harness in the tail gate due to overspray from the spray in the bed liner. Im pretty sure this won't solve the problem but we will see. I personally think it is the BCM ( body control module) because I have had some other weird issues pop up as well like my main screen will sometime stay on for a couple hours after you lock the truck ( its like the back light on the screen is on with nothing displayed). I also have had the truck go into a deep sleep to where none of the key fobs would unlock, lock or even set off the alarm.

(emphasis added by me)

I've seen this same thing and assumed it was somewhat normal for some reason even though it doesn't make sense for it to do that.

If you’re sure your starting battery is ok, a malfunctioning TCU can also put the truck into deep sleep. It should be reprogrammed with the latest software. I had a problem where I could perform one operation with FordPass (like unlock the doors) but then the truck would go into deep sleep and stop communicating. Updating the TCU fixed it.

On my latest visit they confirmed all modules were fully updated. My tailgate harness was also replaced, but due to claims of contact corrosion. I don't have a spray in liner to blame it on. I find it hard to think it was corrosion, I don't even have rust issues on my rear axle like many complain about...

I have no confirmed all of the above is true for me. after 15-20 minutes it just stops working.

Very frustrating and disappointing.

Is this affecting anyone without the power tailgate? Or better yet, if you disable the power part of the power tailgate, does it work? (I'll have to test the last one. just thought of it it now)

I got my truck last October, the power tailgate has always worked and then last Sunday it stopped. The button on the fob, the door knob on the tailgate and then button in the dash all do not do anything. useless! WTF!

Each time I hear three beeps and then see a message in the driver cluster "Power tailgate stow step" What?

Does anyone know how to turn off the power tailgate so we can just use it like a normal truck tailgate?

This is a crazy stupid problem.

Did you check to make sure your tailgate step is completely stowed ? If not, the power tailgate won’t operate. My tailgate step easily pops out slightly and the tailgate won’t operate.

Yep, I have a pulled it up and down a few times. No go.

I also have a diamondback truck cover. never had any issues with it coming down and up before.

Good morning! I'd like to look into your Truck's tailgate issues on my end. To get started. could you please send over a private message with your VIN and the name/location of your local Ford dealer?

Hi everyone. So just curious, did anyone ever figure out or resolve the issue?
I have a 2022 F150 Limited, purchased 9 days ago and I've had the issue since pickup. It's always been intermittent but now it's getting worse.

Things I've tried:
1. Setting to Manual vs Power tailgate
2. Unlocking, locking, unlocking, trying from the fob, the dash button, the button on the tailgate
3. Trying from the Fob
4. Leaving the door open and trying every way possible
5. Playing with the step and trying to open every way possible

I've got nothing...

The dealer tech said that everything looks good. I showed him the videos, he doesn't know what to replace but said to try again with manual. So after when it wasn't working, i took another video with manual set.

My issue is that we constantly load stuff in the bed, we can't hand bomb them constantly and I can't close the tonneau cover anymore since I'll be completely locked out.

What a bummer, I almost regret trading in my GMC.

Let me know if you guys ever had any solution.

Do you get then even when manually opening the gate pressing the button on the back?

Mine opens most the time, but if you are getting that, i would tell them to replace the tailgate step sensor in the tailgate. Sounds like it might have gone bad if it won't go down at all.

What I've found is that if my truck sits for 20+ min and the truck "goes to sleep" (not deep sleep), the fob won't open the tailgate anymore. The lights just blink (it may make a sound, but I'm not normally close enough to hear it). I hate it because on my '17 the fob always worked, no matter what. When I'm leaving a store and have a bunch of crap, I would rather open the tailgate and have it waiting than for me to open it.

I have found if I remote start the truck from the fob, the fob will then open the tailgate. It's a hassle, but it works.
