Power tailgate on 2021

Hello, i currently have a 2021 f150 lariat with a non power tailgate and no step. It has a camera and i can open it with a push of a button. The tailgate got damaged beyond repair and i found a tailgate close to me but it has power, tailgate step, and work surface. Would i be able to make this tailgate work on my truck? I dont care if the power feature works, i just want to know if it will still open and close properly, im not sure if the latches are different from my current tailgate to this one. Thanks.

hmm good question.. idk if the motor on the powered tailgate models are inside the tailgate or the actual truck

Motor is in the tailgate. I read on here that the tailgates are different on the inside due to the power unit. As for interchangeable - sorry, I don't know. @Jesse-Infotainment would be the best person to PM about it. He might know, but if not, he would know whom to message.

I am thinking that the pivot points (hinges) maybe different to allow the motor to move the tailgate up or down.

Well there is this difference on the power gate that is not there on the non power tailgates as far as I know. I’m not sure what the purpose of the screw serves but it might be some type of limiter function.

From my understanding that screw is simply there to prevent or hinder removal of the tail gate. I replaced mine with the special Torx head bolt (forget the name) that has the little pin, hoping any thieves won't have the right tools in their pocket...

Without seeing a power tailgate and the motor being in the tailgate - I suspect the tailgate drive rotates the shaft coming out of the tailgate. The shaft would have to be solid on the side of the box. It can't turn otherwise the tailgate would not move.

I would be VERY surpised if Ford had different locations for hinges and latches. If they do, that would be another failure on Fords part. Would take different molds and casts and support plates in both the bed and tailgate. But Ive seen dumber....

What would it take to get the gate to work? Many of these wiring harnesses have open plugs at the end. Maybe its just getting the final harness and switch inside the truck?

I agree the hinges are probably all at the same place. The ones that have motorized tailgate, are you able to open it manually?

Well Ill be... Never knew that. Went out there and tried to get the thing to power close, button is in awkward place.. So I lifted the tailgate up a bit then let go and it closed by itself. So it works from key fob and 'manual assist".

Im guessing the actuators to unlatched the tailgate are the same on both tailgates. Have to check the hinge where the motor is to see if they can be Swapped out. I have no intensions of using the motor anyways.
