Hi Everyone,

Just joined after reading for a few days as I think this can help me out. I am looking to make a purchase in the coming months (3-9) and the F-150 is an option for me. I am building a BBQ Business and I need something bigger than my sedan for obv reasons. There is an SUV that's a second option but the truck has the lead as of now.

My confusion: Being not versed in Ford or trucks at all I'm confused on all these trims and packages to narrow down what to be looking for in the used market. Unless someone built it new exactly how I want, or it was offered that way, I'll have to do some mods I'm sure, but the minimal the better.

It seems I want the following: 21-23 XLT - 3.5L V6 - Smoked Headlights - 12 inch Infotainment Screen - Bedliner already installed - Carbon Grey I believe is the paint name.
There are 2 front grille that I like and I really want to avoid all that chrome on the front if it can be done. I don't know what else is included in said trim levels yet but this is what I'm hoping for.

Does this exist the way I'm looking for? Should I be looking for a different trim? I have a few other questions/ things to understand but this will help as a start. thx!

Welcome, I dont think Ford sells any model with the smoked headlights, but I could be wrong. You need to do what I did: I spent a lot of time searching all of the car websites online and finally found what I wanted in Florida, I am in Texas. Good luck with your search. What is the truck going to be used for exactly?

Thanks, I'm in Houston a few times a year so that's not an issue but the mileages seem so much higher on the trucks than in Florida. It will be a Daily driver - on occasion to pull my offset smoker/concession trailer ( when I get it )

If I were in your shoes, I would consider a Super Duty.

I've seen people with concession trailers. Some CT's have built in generators, others have generators mounted in their beds wired to the trailer. That's a viable approach. Another is the Powerboost spec F150. Conventional wisdom suggests that 2021 MY Powerboosts can cause issues for their owners but later years are debugged.

What you are looking for is a Sport edition spec truck-that avoids the chrome. By all means be selective about the spec, but being over selective will make your job hard. That Gray color is one of the rarer choices out there. But if it works with your trailer, that's worth the extra effort and possible travel and road trip home to get the truck you want.

Changes after 2021 to 2023 typically reduced content like no temperature display in the HVAC controls.

I'm imagining your reason for suggesting is weight related? At what weight would I think need to be looking to go to a higher level?

Plan is either mounted generator or just wheel it out for events and store it in the trailer when not using it. Reading more today, I see there is a black appearance package which I think is the darker headlights and tails - Which is what I'd like ( without having to swap them on my own later lol). So do you think I should be looking for a XLT sport or BAP or am I screwed and want too much ( story of my life !!)

Seems that you could smoke your own headlights.

I know, poor attempt at a joke. Back to your regular scheduled programming.

The "BAP" at puts you into 22 and up. Not a bad move IMHO., especially if your build date is Sept 22 onwards which was the time Ford introduced an updated transmission that should lengthen service life.

I'm taking notes. Maybe someone can help me with this XL XLT thing. The reason I ended up here is for the larger screen but it seems like there might be XL with the screen and a sport package and I keep getting confused on the differences - Hence me coming here. Is there a place to easily read the differences in an XL vs XLT?

Welcome to the club! I definitely recommend shopping for something that can easily tow your trailer (plus anything bigger if you expect business expansion).

Thanks for the welcome! Def taking those things into account for this vehicle. I won't be moving anything too heavy ( from my understanding ) but I will be checking the weight abilities of the 3.5L just to be certain.
