My truck has had gobs of power since new, but for optimal power from a stop I always have to ease into the throttle. If I floor it the truck will start to spin the tires and after a chirp it will cut power. It does this in all drive mode and turning off traction control doesn’t stop this. Is it supposed to work that way?

I have a Powerboost with no 4 auto and I can get a pretty good burn out even with TC on as a point of reference.

Yeah, it acts like TC is on even when it says it’s off.

You need to press and hold the traction control button for a few seconds to fully turn off the systems.

From the manual:

The traction control system turns on each time you switch the ignition on.
The button for the stability and traction control system is on the instrument panel

Press and release the button to switch traction control off. The stability control system remains fully active, to switch it off, press and hold the button for a few seconds, then release.

And this section -

WITCHING STABILITY CONTROL ON AND OFF
Stability Control turns on each time you switch the ignition on.
You can switch the stability control off by pressing and holding the stability and traction control button off for 5-15 seconds, or you can press the button again to switch the system on.
Shifting the transmission into reverse (R) will disable the system.
You can switch the traction control system off or on independently. See Switching Traction Control On and Off (page 298).

I'd say ease off the throttle tip-in a bit. Torque comes on quickly - once rolling you can dip in a bit more. It's way faster once you learn where the nannies try to step in and don't cross that threshold - it's quick to shut the party down if you go too far.

I generally drive with TC off though, and I rarely spin/chirp the tires unless I want to. Full throttle at 15-20mph is fun, as long as you're going straight...

Great info!
Question: What is this “manual” you speak of?

It's in Sync or you have to download the pdf from owner.ford.com. I find the PDF is easier to search to find stuff.

Gotcha. I was also pointing out that it's nice to have someone remind the group to read the actual manual before we start down the rabbit hole lol.

That did the trick. I had no idea it was a dual function button. ??‍♂
