Surely you don't think the same staff that builds vehicles are also handling OTA software updates on-the-side?

Although Ford, along with many other "Legacy" automotive manufacturers, IS struggling with their lack of OTA delivery prowess, I'm certain the staff regarding is a dedicated team. It's their full time job.

Interestingly, the software division is far better at actually creating/developing software updates than they are at delivering them over a cellular network. Just one more reason for Ford to provide a Mongoose and an FDRS license in the glove compartment of every vehicle they build. ???
From the Farley interview in #12, One of Ford's problems has been that they have used vendor software for the systems they provide. An example he used was Bosch and seat software. That makes integration and updates a nightmare, dependent on 150 or more vendors writing in different software, on different platforms on different schedules. It may be amazing that Ford's OTA updates have worked as well as they have.

He indicated that what impressed him about electric vehicles in China was that the electric vehicle companies were all new, that ICE vendors were not just adding electric because it didn't work.

He went on from there to say that Ford was bringing software in house to gain control and integration of modules that they can't get from hundreds of vendors. They've got a huge task in front of them. It's all got to be run on the vehicle, and there's a lot of hardware modules. You don't want air bag deployment run out of the cloud. That's niche app for programmers these days, you can't just go poach them from Apple. Anyway, looks like Ford's got prospects for software and updates getting better, but it ain't going to be simple. Dunno how long it will take.

I like you have a base of users I span and know how it went together and why. Didn't realize how good I have it. The boys and girls at Ford have my sympathy and appreciation for what they have accomplished. My new truck as app is pretty amazing, warts, OTAs and all.

Well said, in my opinion.

I admit that I didn't have some of these software gripes with my previous vehicles. But then I also didn't have........ (fill in the blank with any of the multitude of features that didn't even exist as recent as 2020)

We are so jaded.
This would look like science fiction not that long ago.

Well, Ford must be listening. I’ve now received in the last few days two updates and am now in the ‘24 versions.

Havent seen an update in a while! HOnestly this is where Telsa's just knock the socks of Ford's. My tesla always gets new updates and the new features are just flat out awesome (especially full self drive).

But i still love my truck more despite its short comings in teh software department.
