Hi Everyone,

I just bought my 2022 F150 Lariat last week with about 4,000 miles and recently noticed that the oil pressure gauge is always at just past halfway on the digital gauge. Normally, this would be good but the problem is that it is stuck there, doesn't matter if its at a cold start, warm idle, or absolutely flooring it. Has anyone else had this issue? Everything seems fine otherwise, but I would like to diagnose it as to ensure that there are no other underlying issues.

It's a fake gauge.
Literally.
In fact, it's not a gauge at all, but rather a rendering of a static graphic image on the screen, if you happen to have the all digital display.

What the "gauge" actually indicate is that your oil pressure is more than 7psi. (the oil pressure sensor is a 7psi open/close switch)

Fortunately there IS an oil pressure PID on the 3.5 Ecoboost. You can view oil pressure with any device that supports that PID. Forscan (full version) supports it in digital format.

Wow, $60,000 truck and it has a placebo oil pressure gauge... Makes no sense that they would just read the output of the PID. Thanks for your response!

In their defense, if you get an opportunity to monitor the PID, you will discover a frantically changing value that would need some "weighting" to diminish the jitter. Lol

It's also a 2 stage (Ford calls it a variable pressure) oil pump that appears to operate in what I describe as a low or high range. Basically it's either in the 30ish lbs region, or it's in the 65ish lbs region, depending on the torque request/load.

If you have an old HPTuners Ngauge you can watch it's value dance nicely.

Electric on the Ecoboost. (3.5 Ecoboost since 2017)
Mechanical on the 7.3 Godzilla

Both are supposed to fault to the high pressure range on failure.

7.3 version:

Is there an ability then to view this same oil pressure PID on Powerboost models? I could never find one that worked but would love to have it.

you didn't research this before you bought the truck or notice the absence thereof where you test drove it?

RAM is the only truck I've owned that shows values of oil pressure, temp coolant, trans temp, and oil temp right there in the EVIC and it was only $40,000.

Fake gauges are nothing new.
My old 2011 was same way oil pressure was on or off on a dash with analog gauges set by dummy values not connected to anything but the computer.
People look at it and know it's good or not.
They would get confused if the gauges moved all the time. An idiot light in gauge form.

Speed, RPM, and boost I think are the only true gauges on the dash.

The oil pressure wasn't selected as one of the display gauges during the test drive. This is the first vehicle I've owned newer than 2004, so I don't have a ton of experience with the digital gauges, hence the confusion....

Powerboost is an Ecoboost.
Same PID for both.

As for Ram having digital oil pressure display, so does the Raptor.
Ford loves to save the jewels for its halo. ??

No.
The variable speed of the oil pump is controlled electrically/electronically. Via a solenoid.

The 7.3 variable speed is controlled analog.

Is the PID info for displaying oil pressure one that will work with MX+ OBD reader. If it will which app are you using to display. I can’t seem to find it in OBDLink but happy to use another if I can get it to show on screen. Thanks again

I have searched thoroughly for someone who might have the oil pressure Pid address and equation.

Still haven't seen it.
It's protected like it's national security. ??
