My truck currently has 1313 miles on it. I picked it up in early February. My oil life monitor says 49% and an estimated 900 miles till next oil change. Does that seem right? I was going to go full synthetic every 5000 miles but not sure if I can now.

It's not a bad idea to do the first change early to get the majority of metallic shavings and any other residual manufacturing debris out of the engine/filter. My plan is to change at 1,000, then at 5,000 and every 5k afterwards. Not sure why your OLM is so pessimistic but it would not hurt to change now.

Make note of where it is, and change the oil. Reset the meter and see how it goes with fresh oil. You should see 8,000 - 10,000 for oil life, but it is all dependent on use. The computer calculates the oil life based on time, temperature, load, etc... so if you do short trips and then truck sits for a week or so, that probably negatively affects your oil life. The oil needs to get hot to steam/dry out all the excess moisture that it absorbs from the atmosphere.

If you see a similar low mileage oil life after the change you may want to bring to the dealer's attention, to see if you got something else going on.

You should do an early 1k and 2k break in oil change with the best oil and filter you can afford and keep an eye on it as some fords have been reported to consume a quart ever 1k miles. I only use Amsoil Signature Series oil and filter and have been doing so for a great many years in all of my performance V8’s and even European cars with outstanding results.

I WANT your oil monitor!

Then I could at least defend my urge to pour fresh oil down its throat often, with screenshots from the Ford oil monitor.
