That's so funny. This was my EXACT scenario. Used to do winters and summers. Had the AT3, thought they were good first winter, 2nd winter not so much. With the price of swapping rubber twice a year decided to go with an AT that sounded promising in the winter: went with the Nokian AT because I had good experiences with my Nokian Hakkas. Will probably go with the Maxxis Razer AT-811 in 35x11.5r17 (34.7x12.1r17)... good reviews all around and a SUPER popular tire down south. If they turn out to be a bummer in the winter (I'll probably go the old route of winter specific tires).
Glad to hear I'm not crazy thinking the performance of my AT3 were diminishing. ;)

Bummed that Falken changed the compound on the Wildpeaks when they updated the AT3W to the AT4W. Longer life but worse snow capability. The AT3W was a go-to tire up here for lots of folks. Oh well.

Will be curious to see what you think of the Maxxis Razer if you go that way.

Would love to know your thoughts on these —

I've been running the Outpost AT for 30k miles. Initially was very impressed, now, not so much. Curious to know how they've maybe upgraded them. Here's my takeawys:

- On road: VERY impressive. Great handling, quiet. Good in wet and dry. I've never once hydroplaned.
- Off road: dry dirt. Average for an A/T tire. They don't really provide much confidence on loose gravel roads. Found the K02 and Toyo AT3 to be much better in this. I like to have fun every once in a while and push my back end around. I find this to break loose and not come back very predictably.
- Mud: despite having large gaps, these do not do well in mud at all. In fact, don't even bother.
- Snow: When I got them, they performed average for an A/T. Packed snow, they are fine. Deep snow, they are GARBAGE. 30k miles later, they are even worse. I can't even get up my driveway if there is any snow at all. I used to be able to get up my driveway w/ K02s in my tacoma in 2wd.
- Wear: as with any tire, they have gotten a tad stiffer @ 30k miles. But they have worn evenly and still behave VERY well on road wet or dry.

I ran Toyo At3s before these in 275/70r18s and was very impressed. They got pretty firm after 25k, but they never let me down (mud, snow and on-road were nice). I'm looking at going either 35x11.5r17 in the Toyo AT3 (actual is 34.5") or 285/75r17 in the Geolander At/4 or Wildpeak At4 (both of these measure out to be 34.1"). The Cooper Stronghold AT and Wrangler Duratrac R/T are also on the short list. Will be buying before next hunting season (late Sept).
I had Toyo ATIIIs on my Ranger Tremor, they were HORRIBLE in the wet. Pure ice skates. I've seen that feedback reported often by other owners.

We get a lot of rain here, so a tire that can't handle wet roads is an instant no.

I haven't driven in heavy snow yet with my AT4Ws, but in the wet they feel great.
