I put this up in the Wheel n' Tire forum, but thought I'd put it up here as well.

Dealer told me today that Friday Ford told them that XLT's with a the 18" PVD wheels are on a functional production hold until at least mid-Q3, when a different version of the wheel would become available. Not quite clear exactly what that wheel is, but it appears to be a very similar wheel but the finish is unclear. They gave me a form to sign allowing Ford to place "painted aluminum 18" wheels" on the truck in the short term to permit production sooner, but the form doesn't specifiy color. After a couple calls back and forth with the dealer, I've been told short-term option is the black wheels from the STX, ot I could go with the 20" PVD wheels for the attendant $1400 upcharge. Given the the balance of the story I'm being told, one would presume the mid-Q3 replacement wheels are also PVD, as orignally intended.

The 157" XLT I've ordered isn't available with the BAP, so chrome bumpers, door handles and grill accents; not at all sure black wheels will look decent on this truck, but of course have no way tell. And if I'd wanted 20's, I'd have ordered 'em in the first place.

Something doesn't seem quite right about the info I'm being provided, especially Ford not specifying the paint color on the subsitute wheels. More inquiry is required on Monday, but has anyone else heard this yet?

Can your dealer set you up with a set of take-off in exchange?

We will see. Not a big aftermarket wheel hotspot around here but you never know.

If I didn't already have a set of winter wheels for it, this would mean nothing, as I'd just run black ones then and buy some new aftermarket wheels for summer. But I don't really need three sets of wheels for this truck.

I think I've decided my fallback is to pay the upcharge for the 20's, with appriopriate bitchin' n' moanin' to cut a better deal. I need a truck sooner rather than later and the nearest similar spec truck I can find on the lot is 500 miles away...with 20's. LOL
