I just ordered my first (new order) F 150 and this chip shortage is making me wish I wouldn't have done that. I finished up the order process Wednesday afternoon and can't even get a rough idea on how long it will take. It's killing me, anybody else having these thoughts??

You're probably going to be waiting a number of months.
Ask your dealer to provide you the order number and VIN when they have it.
That will give you an indication the order has been scheduled for build by Ford.
Once you have a window sticker, typically it's a couple of weeks before the build process.
For detailed order tracking, your dealership will need to provide you screenshots of their internal order tracking tool.

The wait is worth it, I really enjoy the truck.

LOL
That’s only 2 days ago.
Will likely be at least 2 weeks before you get a S/N if your lucky and then at least 2 months before you see your truck. There are many here that order in the fall of 2020 and still don’t have their truck.
I ordered my first one March 16. Was built April 26 and has been parked in storage ever since waiting for “chips”. Has a current ETA of Oct 31. I expect that will change.
I have since re ordered the truck hoping to get it sooner and being a “fresh” one.

I am also a new guy here. My order went in on June 23rd. I got my VIN and build week on June 24th. I am currently scheduled for the week of Aug 2nd but anticipate that slipping with the announcement yesterday of Dearborn going on reduced shifts for 2 weeks. Once you get your VIN you can tell what plant it is being built in. This is my 5th Ford truck but my 1st custom order.

On the other end of the spectrum, I put in a 'retail' order for a 2021 F-150 on June 08, 2021. I've passed the Ford order system as "reviewed / clean" within 2 days. I've been sitting in the Ford order system limbo ever since. Was told this week that "No F-150's were scheduled" - no idea what that means. I ran several scenarios by my dealer as to what I thought it might mean, and I was told "nope" it means that no vehicles were selected this week. Period.

If you read the various threads in this forum, there are people like RayRay and Chewza that have been waiting MONTHS for their trucks. It appears from the Ford earnings call this week that Ford is taking parts supplies from at least one shift at Dearborn (DTP) and several days of production at Kansas City towards the previously manufactured trucks that Ford has sitting in lots in Michigan, Missouri and other places. My $0.02 - new vehicle production lines will take the brunt of the hit in the near term (through August?) so Ford can ship the trucks that have been sitting in lots for 2-3 months.

As Cbaka27 notes above, his truck was selected almost immediately and got a VIN within 2 days.

So it depends: on your trim level, the options you selected, 2WD or 4WD, etc. Here's what I've been able to find - Step 1: order your truck, Step 2: clear Ford's selection as a "clean" order (no problems with the order itself), Step 3: get a VIN assigned, Step 3A: Get a window sticker assigned (which will contain . . .), Step 4: get assigned a Blend Date (when all of the parts are available for your truck to be assembled at the plant, which will at some point be added to your vehicle window sticker), Step 5: get a manufacture week, Step 6: truck produced (hopefully produced completely), Step 7: get a shipment date (railhead, trucking company, etc), Step 8 shows up at your dealer.

You all feel free to jump in here if I missed a step, or got a step out of order, or I completely missed a step. I've been trying to get an "A" is for Apple, "B" is for Boy, "C" is for Charlie step diagram of how all this works and this is the best I've been able to cluge together. There are other threads on this and other forums ("Blue Oval Forums") that have further detailed analysis, but they ultimately come back with "well, we don't know why your truck is still sitting in the order system without a VIN while other trucks got a VIN in 2 days".

Medic900, may the Ford be with you.

I have my VIN and my build week but no Window Sticker. I was told that won't get put together until about a week to 10 days before my build week. I should mention I was a priority 19 order.

@euchre_u step that is missing is before Ford picks it up as clean. Your dealer has to assign it a priority of anywhere from 10 to 19. That tells the scheduler how important it is to the dealer AND your dealer has to have an available allocation for your color, shape, specs, and sized truck. Bigger dealers get more and smaller get less. Also, the scheduler will know that they only have allocations to give out based on things like paint, chips, etc.

My truck was ordered 1/25, built 3/30, and has an ETA of 7/27 (released awaiting shipment). Logically, you'll wait less than this, but I'd expect 12-18 weeks is pretty much the minimum you'll wait.

I have the submitted order sheet. My priority code is 11. My dealer stated that they have 13 unused F-150 allocation spots for June when I ordered, so I'm assuming they would have had 12 or so left after my order. I was told last week that I was also put into the COVP system (? - not sure of the exact name) - which supposedly going to allocate more production spots to 'retail' orders like mine.

I do not make my living using a truck, so right now I'm fine waiting. As other posters have noted, it's just irksome that there seems to be such a randomness to the build process - even AFTER your truck has been produced. We will see. Maybe a 2022 is what I really wanted anyway.

COVP = Customer Order Validation Program. I guess Ford was seeing the 'special order' system being clogged by dealers just trying to get stock. I ordered 22 March....still waiting for my truck to go down the track....hopefully before the day is out I will get good news.

You shouldn’t be too bad, probably 8-12 weeks I’d expect (Keep in mind 8 weeks is about what it’s normally expected to take without any abnormal delays etc). The insanity of building incomplete trucks is over from what it looks like, so as long as you get scheduled for a build and it doesn’t get pushed, you should ship shortly after. It’s just the getting scheduled part that might have a slight delay of a few extra weeks with them now focusing on trying to get rid of the trucks sitting in lots.
From what I’ve seen recently Dearborn stuff seems to be moving quicker, so make sure your order has stuff that makes it destined for Dearborn…

The answer you're looking for is 4 months. You will have your truck in 4 months.
