New Member - New Truck in Transit

Good Morning! Pretty pumped, just bought an '21 Lariat FX4 that's in transit to a dealer in North Alabama. Dealer down south has traded for it. We did all the paperwork etc, just waiting on the truck. Crazy sensation writing a check for a truck that's not in front of me.

Question I have-

I need a bedliner, leaning towards spray in. Was told to get a rubber-esque coating and not a hard one. Thinking Line-X?

Also I want a tonneau cover, I'm leaning towards the rolling kind. They are expensive and I would love for someone to talk me into a tri fold or quad fold.

Also any other advice on a new truck owner?

Get the line-x, dont even think about it, do NOT get a drop in, you will kick yourself in the long run. As far as tonneaus go, I have always been a fan of the quad fold Bakflip MX4, looks great and is durable, easy to open and if you really need full access to the bed its 2 hand screws and you can pull it off. Other than that its simple stuff like make sure you check for rust underneath. Consider a factory backed ESP warranty if you are going to keep longer than 5 years.

Welcome to the 21 club,

LineX is a great choice for a liner, you would definitely regret a plastic drop-in liner down the road. As for a tonneau cover goes Backflip MX4 is a good choice, but I would take a hard look at the Extang Solid Fold 2.0 or the Exceed. I personally am leaning towards the Exceed.

Appreciate the responses! Line-x sounds like where I'm headed. Think I'm going to skip the UV protection additive since I'm going with the bed cover.

I'm seeing more advantages of the tri/quad fold covers. Ability to either position the cover or remove the cover entirely to gain access to entire bed.

This would not be possible with a rolling cover.


Now I just need a truck.

Dealer claims to not know where the truck i bought is. They said its in transit to dealer up north. Once it gets to the dealer they’re going to trade one of their King Ranch.

Obviously, Im chomping at the bit for the new truck. Hopefully will have an update on Monday.

I just got an email saying my xm radio trial has started. This could be standard practice, buy a new vehicle and a couple days later xm reaches out to give me a trial.

Or maybe, just maybe, my truck has made it to original dealer and has been turned on- something to trigger the radio.

When it comes to covers I had the Backflip MX4 on my 2019 and it was great. I wanted something different for the 2021. So I went with the BF Revolver X4S and like it also. Just be careful with the revolver. You can get your fingers pinched when you open or close it. Both are great covers.

Congrats on the truck!

I went with the dual liner (kinda like a drop-in) because I often will load heavy items in (up to 500 lbs) by sliding them in and out. My fear with lineX is that no matter how well bonded if there is a bolt or something protruding at all it will still scrape it off. Also the lineX shops around here have beyond terrible reviews.

Good luck in the cover search! I went with a hard tri fold cover that sits on top (no track/rails, ease of removal, works with the power tailgate), but there is a lot to choose from and it doesn’t seem like there is one “perfect” one out there that would satisfy everyone.

The Dual Liner is really interesting. Any concern with rust or anything that exists with standard drop in cover?

Also I think I would have to puncture the the liner adjacent to the cab to run the drain lines.

I'm looing into the dual liner.

I’m not too concerned with rust because the truck body is aluminum, I will be putting it in when the paint is new and I will also have a cover in addition to the liner.

They say the mat allows water to drain, but of course that means it also allows dust to circulate under so I might have to take it out and wash it once in a while, but hoping with having a cover it won’t be much of an issue, I might also add a tailgate seal. My biggest concern is if I get a load of gravel or something if that will get under the mat… but in that rare caseI would probably just rent a utility trailer anyway.

I figure if down the road I have issues I can still go lineX and keep using the bed mat portion of the dual liner.

Anytime! Yeah I have the pro power and “pre-ordered” for that… when I talked to them they said August so hopefully that happens. I did see that some people who moved their dual liner from their prior F150 to a new one with pro power, they made it work by cutting out a hole themselves. Not my preference given the molded ones should be available soon but cool they made their old one work.

I just got my truck yesterday, they also saw it as in transit but could not find it. A week later is showed up. My suggestion is to get the LineX spray in liner I priced it with the LineX place and the dealership and the dealer was actually about 30 dollars cheaper and since they did if prior to me taking delivery it is now covered under warranty if it were to scratch as some have stated. I had LineX in my last two trucks and never had an issue, my only complaint is that it holds the red dirt from the many dirt roads I have to drive on to get home. So you just have to keep after it but keep in black.

I will give a big thumbs up to the Dual Liner, I just sold my 2016 F-150 took my Dual Liner out and the bed under it looked brand new. The water drains just fine.

I would love to have the rolling kind of bed cover but $$ being what it isn't, I bought an Undercover Flex bed cover model UX22029 for $1,359.72 (taxes included). I do like it it's very sturdy, opens in four sections, the last one can block the window, however, what I really liked about this one is you can leave the cover open (without blocking the window) and lock it in. Also, I would go for the spray in liner, it is so much better on the knees.
