Hello all. I have a 2023 F150 Lariat SC FX4. I am in need of some advice. I brought my truck to the local dealer for some issues (transfer case seal leak, low battery and for a noisy front differential.) Two issues have been repaired however the front differential is still humming. Had a tech ride with me and verify the noise when I first brought the truck in. Originally I thought the wheel bearings were going bad or my hubs were sticking. The noise is still there whether I am in 2H, 4H or 4A. Long story short, the tech rotated my tires and "ran the truck on the lift and the noise decreased slightly." My question is how can they be sure the noise decreased slightly while the truck was not under a load? Would they be able to attach some chassis ears and try and pinpoint where the humming is coming from? The service advisor said the humming noise was coming from the tires however they did a check on my tires and found no abnormalities. Are Hankooks known for humming? The truck didn't make that noise before hitting 21k miles. I attached the work order. What should I do next? Sounds like I need to make sure my life insurance is paid up. Hahaha. My apologies for the long rant and thank you all in advance for your help.

Dealer just replaced leaking front pinion seal @57K miles on my 2022, but I am not having any noise related issues from the front differential, dont run 4H extensively/mostly seasonally, but I do use 4A quite a bit.

This a possibility, or is your noise further forward?

SSM 53305 2017-2025 Various Vehicles - 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 Transmissions - Whine Noise From Bellhousing/Front Of Fluid Pan At Idle And/Or While Driving
Some 2017-2025 Ford and Lincoln vehicles equipped with a 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmission may exhibit a whine noise at idle and/or while driving. This may be identified as coming from the bellhousing and the front of the transmission fluid pan. The whine noise may become louder when the transmission is at operating temperature and may increase with engine revolutions per minute (RPM) in the park (P) position. A small amount of whine noise is considered to be characteristic of the 10R60/10R80/10R80 MHT/10R100 transmissions due to the offset gear drivetrain in the front support and has no effect on durability.

Thank you all for your input. It looks like it may be my carrier bearing. Thank you for the link. Now, the hard part trying to convince the techs at the local dealership to take a look at my front diff and have the management replace it under warranty. Saddened this had to happen at 21k. This is my daily and family hauler. Bought the truck new. Wish me luck. I may have to bring it to another dealer. Thank you all again

The noise sounds like it is definitely coming from somewhere near the driver's seat. Which makes me think it is the front differential. Thank you very much for your input.

Sounds kind of similar to the issue I am having. I get a grinding vibration o. The accelerator pedal which is very perceptible in 4H or 4A, and you get some steering wheel vibration and vibration on the floor. I also get some vibration on the pedal in 2H but the longer I just leave it in 2H the better it gets. Switching the drive mode to even eco mode seemed to increase the vibration as well.

Mine is a 2021 so under warranty. Took it to the Ford dealer and their transmission specialist knew exactly what it was upon description. But we did a test drive and he confirmed it was the front differential. He said he’s been rebuilding a ton of these since Covid and thought Ford might even recall them.

I am waiting on the new parts but hopefully this will take care of it.

Thank you for you reply. Hopefully the dealer will think otherwise and not blame it on my tires. Many thanks again

With your front axle always live, it's pointing to a diff issue as previously mentioned and why 2H won't do you any good. There's no EIWEs (locking hubs) in your truck to turn off the front axle. We've seen spun carrier bearings in them so it's a possibility. At the very least get the tech to remove the front cover and inspect for FOD (though they might just suck some oil out). If the race is spinning there should be some glitter in the oil.

Thank you very much. Will do exactly that.

Bringing this back up to see if you ever got the issue fixed? My new-to-me 2021 KR has the same noise that does not change with 2wd/4wd/4A and is 100% speed (not RPM) dependent. I've already taken it back to the local stealership, where the inept service department threw a front wheel bearing at it and sent me on my way with a service report that said the problem has been resolved
