Driving my two boys to my younger son's soccer game this morning. Nearing the I-8 West and CA-67 interchange, traffic stops suddenly. I had to hit my brakes hard and activated the ABS. Truck started braking quickly and I figured I would stop in time.

As I'm slowing down, I glanced in my rearview mirror to see a sedan barreling down behind me. No way he was going to stop in time.

I've only had my XLT PB for 3 months and we're planning our first trip with our new RV Trailer in 4 days and it's about to get smashed from behind!

I quickly see the shoulder is open to my right and I duck onto the shoulder, pulling along side the car that was in front of me just as the sedan misses my tail by inches.o_O That driver tried to pull to the left and missed the car in front of me by inches too.

I know, "Cool sorry, Bro." Nobody got hurt and I was able to teach my older son, who has his learners permit, some valuable driving lessons in accident avoidance. Glad the PB has good brakes and nimble performance, otherwise this would have been a different and unfortunate story.

Oh, and my son's team won their soccer game, with my son scoring two goals for his team. ;)

Did you need to change your pants? Here is my story where I damn near shat myself.

Heading home from the cabin in the wife's Jeep Grand Cherokee. Cruise set at 80 in a 70. Slight curve followed by a hill. Full sun shining bright. As I crested the hill, I realized everyone was creeping, if not stopped. ABS was screaming, cars were diving left and right behind me, hitting the shoulder, center median, etc. I had no where to go but straight. We stopped in time, barely, but we stopped. I bet we were less than 1 foot from their rear bumper.

It puts the fear of God back into you and takes your Superman complex away.

Many people freeze up and panic in these situations. Honestly, I managed to keep my cool, take quick evasive action, and get my truck and boys to safety.

I told my boys when we got home to let me talk to their mom about what happened before they did. They joked that they were going to tell her, "Mom! We almost died! But it's ok. Dad saved us!" ?

Yes, you become well aware of the frailty of humanity in those instances.
