You got lucky, I don’t think they advertise that it works for animal strikes, just pedestrians. My truck definitely didn’t alert me when a deer jumped in front of me to take a look at my headlights, he became roadkill, and left me with a smashed front end ?
LUCKY is an understatement, i have dash video of truck "pausing" just enough to change the rate of closure . my foot could not react fast enough
deer is a brown blur in the video, its on here somewhere i posted it a few times .
i think LIGHT, road conditions and width of easement off roadway allowed truck to "SEE" something moving at a rate that was in conflict of trucks path .. otherwise i would have needed a new headlight and grill and seat pan cover

Why would you deactivate something that saved your a$$?
I guess reading comprehension was not your strong suit in school. If you read my post you should have realized that my truck's sudden braking when the car ahead was in a different lane for exiting the freeway was likely to have resulted in a motorist driving into the back of my truck.

I know better than to tailgate and I also watch for other motorists tailgating me and adjust the length of the gap between my vehicle and the one ahead to compensate. I can anticipate a problem based on my years of experience but the Ford programmers can only deal with a single situation and rely on sensors to control the vehicle's behavior.

We have "self-driving" Teslas that all of a sudden leave the highway and crash into parked cars or buildings. My 2022 F-150 braked without need and almost resulted in an accident. I also have disabled the collision detect reverse function as if I have a bike rack mounted to the hitch receiver the truck's brakes would continually be activated as the truck's sensors and programming could not distinguish between approaching an obstacle and having a bike rack on the back of the truck. A person would not make that mistake but the Ford programmers did with their code.

The Boeing 737 Max jets crashed because the automated flight control systems malfunctioned and there was not enough time for the flight crew to react and override the system. Corporate greed killed hundreds of people and it is foolish to blindly trust any company's products to be safe.

I don't know how I survived my 69 yrs of life without this feature (sarcasm)
When my reactions become to slow that I have to rely on a computer, I'll hang up my keys.
Hell, my Harley doesn't have this feature, and I have more assholes pulling out in front of me when I'm riding that.

We help people sell their cars.
Merging onto the Buffalo Skyway this morning the idiot in front of me decided to slam on their brakes and come to a screeching halt where the ramp veers in at the end (no shoulder) rather than hit their gas to merge. The kicker is there were no cars in the right lane we were merging into, only the left!! I admittedly was taking a sip of hot chocolate so my reaction was late. The pre collision alert came on the screen beeping and not a millisecond later the truck started hitting the brakes before I pressed the pedal and avoided a rear end collision. There was absolutely no reason the car in front of me had to stop, they decided it would be better to put everyone else in danger. I’m just thankful the truck reacted before I did.
Sounds like a close call. Truck really came in clutch, and you didn't spill any hot chocolate (hopefully).
