My B&O 8 speaker upgrade to 3 Way active

I came across @Jbcaindo on this forum and reached out to see what could be done to enhance my 2022 F150 audio experience. After some conversing back and forth, we settled on a 3 Way system utilizing 8 channel DSP, mti behind seat sub with twin 6.5 woofers, added dash speakers. Jon just finished the install this past Saturday and I drove 10 hours all the way back to North Dakota. I'm floored with the sound quality and with how much quieter the cab is with the full sound deadening treatment. I'm attaching pictures of the install, parts list. So Scott reached out and gave me an initial budget to which we spec'd a 2way active front rear and single slim 10 behind the seat, with Match amplifiers.

The limitations were definitely going to be the single sealed 10 bts and the ci3 full range ci3 8s in the front doors coupled to the ci 5 1" tweeters.

Scott then asked what a few more dollars would gain him and that's when we could really deliver the goods.

We were able to convert the dash to unleashed, add (2) 3" midrange speakers in there, bump the tweeters back to ci 3 .75" tweeters and upgrade the door speakers to the notorious ci 5 8" woofers.

What this particularly 3 way grouping allows is a multitude of things;
︎Bring the stage height front and center with extreme accuracy from 250hz and up
︎add 2 speakers with 65w into the mix at eye level bringing the perceived volume way up
︎use the ci 5 8" woofers in the doors which play down into the 30hz range WITH authority!
︎allow for more low end bass to supplement a behind the seat enclosure.

We also use these door 8s in exotics for the simple reason that the customers don't want an intrusive subwoofer or they literally don't have the space, like the porsche 992 cabriolet coming in next.

With the Match up 8 dsp/amp combo, this allows us to hit the front doors with 160wrms each, every other speaker gets 65w rms and it's a full fledge ATF dsp so the sky is the limit when it comes time to tune. Giving us the perfect oem signal via optical toslink is a Mobridge entry hiding on the backside of the amp board.

The Match up 1fx can deliver up to 1,000rms which would have been overkill for the sealed slim 10 but headroom is never a bad thing. During this week long exchange an opportunity to try the newly released MTI dual 6.5 ported bts enclosure presented itself. Seeing the RTA from the box designer and Mr. Hald made it a no brainer. So we skipped the 10 and let er eat with dual dual 4s to give us a 1ohm final and all the powa the 1FX could muster.

We completely gutted the entire truck and used SoundSkins throughout. We used Resonix Guardian within the door cavity and their butyl rope to cope with the pesky rattles between panels. We also added SS to the door card itself.

To give Scott complete control of his new audio system, we 3d printed a compression cup to remove and replace the pro trailer back-up knob with an ATF Conductor remote. In this configuration we gave him Subwoofer attenuation, rear speakers attenuation and also main volume control.

During tuning we got to see how great the ci5 8s could dig down low and they didn't disappoint. We set the initial high pass at 28hz @ 24db LR just for fun and they accomplished the task. Unfortunately once we brought the subwoofers online we saw a phasing issue on the MAX and had to move the ci5 hp filter up a bit to remedy.

To say this system is a "budget" build would be misleading because it delivers such amazing results.

Parts used also included acrylic dash adapters from SGS, rear adapters from SGS, amp rack from SGS, in house built front door adapters, JL and Tspec wiring and Kicker fuse & mount.

Here's an rta of one of the ci5 8" woofers in the front door. This is NO eq, crossovers set at 35-250 24db LR on ~160w rms. I ended up crossing it at 45hz due to a phase issue with the subs. This should give a SOLID idea what these door woofers are capable of. With another 80-100w rms I'm not even so sure a normal listener would know they were missing a subwoofer.

Do you by chance still have the part number for the upper dash panel to add the 3” to the dash.
I’m going to do a very similar install but I’m going with a HELIX V EIGHT DSP, HELIX M ONE X

Very nice work. I know quality products when I see them and those are quality products and installation too. I’m sitting on a bunch of DSP’s, amplifiers, speakers, and subs myself from previous systems I used to have. This makes we want to get back into it again.

@Jbcaindo If you didn't go with the 8" in the doors, do you think the dual 6.5" subs in the back would be enough? I'm torn between a single 10" or the dual 6.5" behind the seat. I've heard a single TW3 setup before but that was in a completely different setup and vehicle so it's apples and oranges. I wish there was a way to hear the 6.5" as for some reason I think that may have a better sound. Trying to get feedback from folks that actually have one of these setup. My intent for now is to just add it to the B&O Unleashed, replacing the OEM sub. I'm confident either one will cover that. However I want to leave the possibility open that I may replace everything down the road and would like whatever sub I go with upfront to work later on.

@Jbcaindo Could you elaborate on the amp/integration choice here (Mobridge Entry and Helix Match Up amps) versus potentially just using the mobridge A2B amplifier kit? I'm weighing these two options, plus a third option of Maestro A2B/Audison AF C8.14 bit/Audison AF C4D for my truck.

I know above @Jbcaindo mentions the RTA and designer. Is it a different design? Just seems like there isn't much info on these dual 6.5's enclosure. Can they get deep enough? Curious what music you listen to with this setup as I'm looking to mock this one in my F-150. Even if it means driving to KC for a tune...and some BBQ from Denver.

I doubt I would have known the difference between the SGS and the MTI enclosure. When I drove back to North Dakota after the install, I listened to every genre possible because the sound was so clean. My ears were sore after the ten hour drive. I listen to foreigner, police, Eminem, journey. It's a really clean sound and like a concert directly in front of you.
