Looking at 2022 f150 manufactured in Canada, buying in the US. Is there anything I should be aware of regarding warranty, resale or any reason NOT to buy a truck manufactured in Canada?

F150's have been assembled in the US exclusively for many years now. However, very likely many of the parts are manufactured in Canada. Shouldn't have any affect on warranty, resale, etc.

I suspect you're looking at a truck built for the Canadian market but actually assembled at either the Dearborn or Kansas City plant in the USA.

Look at the 11th digit of the VIN:
  • "K" indicates assembly at Kansas City, Missouri, USA
  • "F" indicates assembly at Dearborn, Michigan, USA
There are threads on this forum about 'Canadian F150' ownership in the US, including topics like the default metric units on the various displays. I don't recall how that 'issue' is solved; search is your friend.

There's also potential differences with some features like DRL due to different national requirements, again I don't recall the details or implications of that.

Good Luck!

Canadian trucks are pretty common in Washington state. I had a F-350 dually that was Canadian and didn't see any downside other than the speedometer outside ring was kmh and the inside mph (reverse order of u.s.)

Thank you! So no warranty coverage issues because it was made in Canada?

What is the first digit of the VIN?
If it is a "1", it was not manufactured in Canada. It was made in the USA.

1, 4, 5 or 7 United States
2 Canada
3 Mexico

There are no F150s built in Canada anymore. It’s a Canadian market truck built in Missouri or Michigan

I'm in South FL, but my f150 package was built solely for the Canadian market, "XTR". Nothing special, just an XLT-low with a chrome package & platinum (or limited) steps. However, my VIN begins with "1" so it's US built. The VIN will likely be the indicator of what's built here vs other countries.

Does anyone know about the warranty mileage - I bought a truck originally from Canada and the window sticker says 100,000km for the warranty, which comes out to a little over 62,000 miles instead of the normal 60,000. I'm wondering which limit applies in my case (not a big deal really, just curious).

If it says 62k on the original window sticker I'd argue it's good for 62k.. the US and Canadian warranty books both say the warranty is good in either country.

I believe Canada has running lights on all the time.

They also typically come with electric block heaters due to cold.

You'll need to pay cash. Canadian dealers won't finance to USA buyer.
Many USA banks won't finance out of country, especially credit unions.
If you do want to finance, one option, if you have one, is to draw from a HELOC, then once you have title and registered in your state, finance through a credit union and pay your HELOC back, assuming your HELOC is a higher rate.

Importing a vehicle into the United States requires the owner to declare permanent or temporary importation at the time of entry with the vehicle and present the following documentation to a CBP officer:

• Proof of ownership — An original Certificate of Title or a certified copy of the original
• Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Form 3520-1 Declaration Form — Importation of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Engines Subject to Federal Air Pollution Standards, which can be downloaded at https://www.epa.gov/importing-vehic...ms-importing-vehicles-and-engines#declaration.
• Department of Transportation (DOT) Form HS-7 Declaration Form — Importation of Motor Vehicles and Motor Vehicle Equipment Subject to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety, Bumper and Theft Prevention Standards, which can be downloaded at https://www.nhtsa.gov/importing-vehicle.

Vehicles imported to the United States must have proof of compliance with both U.S. EPA and DOT standards (the standards vary based on the age of the vehicle). Proof of EPA compliance is generally the permanent manufacturer’s sticker on the engine of the vehicle stating in English that it complies with EPA standards. If the vehicle is at least 21 years old, there are no EPA compliance requirements upon importation. Proof of DOT compliance is generally the permanent manufacturer’s sticker on the driver's side door stating in English that it complies with DOT standards. A vehicle that is at least 25 years old can be lawfully imported into the United States without regard to whether it complies with all applicable DOT Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. If one or both stickers are missing, the owner must obtain a letter from the manufacturer specifically providing the vehicle identification number, maker, model, year of manufacture and that the vehicle is fully compliant with U.S. EPA and DOT regulations.

Foreign-made vehicles (not including trucks or motorcycles) imported into the United States are generally dutiable at a 2.5 percent duty rate based on the purchase price or current Kelley Blue Book value. Most Canadian-made vehicles are duty-free.

Upon completion of the vehicle import, the importer will receive the signed and stamped CBP Form 7501. This Form 7501 is your proof of legal import into the United States and is generally required for registering and licensing the vehicle in the state where you reside.

For further information on importing vehicles to the United States, please visit our website at https://help.cbp.gov/s/global-search/import vehicle.

Whoops...misread your post. Thought you were buying in Canada. You can ignore that last part which I received from US CBP when I was looking to buy from a Canadian dealer.
