checked a Motorcraft H8 from the dealer. Only $450. Went and bought a DieHard H8 for $249, brought it home and topped it off. Took it to the dealer. We will see tomorrow if it worked for the updates
Got my new H8 from walmart and installed yesterday...had my first OTA in forever go through overnight! The old H6 would always charge up to 100 % and pass load tests. After a couple days in the truck I would start getting the warnings again. OTA's would always fail.
Ricksc is correct in that starter type batteries are easily damaged with deep discharges. On my 2022 truck I had to replace failed batteries 4 times. The last time was just before trading in the truck for a Silverado (which fixed the problem 100%).
There are youtube videos showing how a technician can monitor a Ford vehicle (car or truck as they have the same problems) for 24 hours and detect when a parasitic drain starts. One video I watched was for a sedan and after 8 hours the drain was more than 5 amps on the battery and in this case it turned out to be the alternator. It took specialized logging equipment and a dedicated mechanic to find the problem.
My regret is in not dumping the truck in 2023. Check the Chevy, Ram, and Toyota forums and you will not find postings about battery problems. This is a Ford vehicle problem.
I just got the "Check 12v Battery" notice on Ford pass. I put the Battery Tender on it for about 2 hrs and it said "fully charged"....not sure how to take that.
I had my Ranger for 5 years, and had the BMS plug next to the battery disconnected 90%+ of the time. Still had the factory battery when I traded it. Never had a battery issue with any other vehicle for a looong time. Ford really needs to eliminate the broken/useless BMS crap.
I guess I'll be buying a new battery to go with my "new" 2024 Ford with 8500 miles......
