Picked up mt Platinum at the end of May and my tailgate has made the same loud pop just before the locking mechanism takes over. The tailgate also has a slight stutter in movement when I hear the pop. It is incredibly annoying that a brand new truck sounds and looks very broken.

I'm happy to say that I think the "crack" is completely gone now. We've been on a big camping trip for the last month and have been opening/closing the tailgate many times a day. Hope it disappears for you as well!

The "crack" has not returned for me as well. Heavy use and standing on it is the day it stopped for me.

I had this sound on my old super duty, and the issue was the same. the torsion bar clamp was loose. I pulled off the tailgate on my 22 raptor and removed the bar. I made sure it was not chipped or stripped on the flat end and tightened the thing down until the clamp was flush on both sides, it is visible for underneath the tailgate.

plugged her back in and problem solved

My brand new 22 Powerboost I just bought today is doing this same thing. Hadn't even left the dealer lot with it and went to close the tailgate and very loud crack. So I brought it to the GM's attention since I had just signed the paperwork not 10 min earlier. Supposed to take it in to them next week to reset the keypad pin, apply the bed liner and look into this. I'll be sure to let them know to look at the torsion bar.

Build date on mine is 1/12/22.

You have any update on yours? I just picked up mine last night with 30 miles and it's doing the exact same thing. Appreciate it

I fixed mine. It is the torsion bar. When they tightened it at teh factory they didnt tighten it alighned correctly. There is a flat spot on the torsion bar. So after the first use it rolls out of place. It is also terrible on the motor because the motor has no assistance from the spring now.

There is a TSB on this issue.. I followed it when I fixed mine. Its easy fix. Ill find the TSB

Same noise with my 1/30/22 limited build. I am still waiting on parts but according to my dealer Ford has redesigned the part and it should be in soon.

That TSB would imply it might not be parts needed but rather assembly error on torque and placement?

I was under the impression that when the tailgate is removed it messes with sensors in it. Mine isn't motorized but the clamp block is what's causing the pop on mine as well. If I can pull the tailgate w/o messing with any sensors I'll just fix it myself instead of taking it to the dealer.

I didn’t have any issue with mine after removing it. I don’t know you could do it with it on the truck. Never say never. I took mine off and the whole damn torsion bar pulled out it was stiluck to the driver side. What a mess it was.

I didn’t know if the power release only had the torsion bar or not.

If you were to remove the tailgate and have an issue the cams have to be recalibrated. That’s it. They fixed the issue with an abs update as well as the ipma update that came out when blue cruise hit job 1

You can technically unbolt the block for the torsion bar (non powered tailgates) but would really need a 6 point box end on it. A 12 point will just probably round the bolt off. There's not enough room to get a regular socket on it with the tailgate attached.

If that is the case it would be easier. You can pull the tailgate cover off with it up. SO that you can see the locking block. I wasnt sure though if it being up you could relieve all the tension. That was my main concern.
