Each individual has a different experience/perspective. The only one that truly knows is Ford and they aren’t going to say it is a bad design/build. I am thrilled for those that have had a great experience to date with their PB. Mine has been very different and at 43,000 miles, I am done with a PB. Went back to an Ecoboost, which for me was very reliable before. Don’t need the generator mode anyway. I already have a 11,000 watt generator with a house transfer switch.
It's too bad the PB didn't work out for you, but I can certainly relate. Unfortunately some people might need to share how offended they are about your personal experience ?. Hope the new truck works out better for you!

Guess I'm late to the thread (as usual). I'm just here to offer a shameless plug for the poor underrated PowerBoost. It's a DAMN BEAST and no less reliable than any Toyota, Honda, Mazda, Audi, Ford, or Jeep I've owned in my lifetime. Well, maybe my 1982 Toyota truck with the 22R engine, Weber carb, Hooker header, & K&N filter and also my 1998 T-100 with the 3.4 V6 w/TRD GenII Supercharger... (Yes, that was the shameless part!)

Quite frankly, my PB has not let me down, stranded me, cost me $$$, or pissed me off to any degree some of the others have. Some were absolute POS' but the two F-150's I've owned (18 STX and this 21 PB) have been great vehicles.
I've had all the recalls dealt with and a few warranty jobs taken care of - lower air dam replaced due to bent rubber catching on retract, missing rivets in tailgate work platform, drivers side mirror defroster not working, Sync 4 APIM replaced, and reprogramming of the transmission.

Out of all that, the biggest butt hurt was the time it had to sit at the dealer. Not for them to work on it, but to wait for the next technician. But I will blame most of that on COVID. Getting ANY vehicle through a dealer during that 21-23 fiasco was an ordeal for all.

My only out of pocket expense other than regular fluids & gasses was an H7 Interstate battery purchased at Costco for around $160 about 1 year ago. Everything else spent on my PB has been voluntary.

So let it be know - I LOVE my truck. ? ?

Wonder what’s changed? I had one of the first PowerBoost trucks. Loved it. No issues. None on the powertrain or the truck itself. The Coyote I had prior was the biggest POS, period. After approaching the second engine replacement, I gave up at warranty. Of course Ford just moved the goal line to fix that problem for all owners since.
I think quality is wiped off before the name goes on with Ford today. I sense the 48th year being #1 is in the swing. If not this year, it’s not far out Ford will lose this title with their poor quality lately. Better shape up and ditch the dodo.

I just got my '24 in November and have 7,500 miles on it so not enough to make a determination but so far so good. A few things I would change on it but overall it seems solid. Just preparing for a better couple of batteries (Main 12v and Aux) when the time comes.

I love my 22 Powerboost, but I have to agree with CR. Reliability wise, mine has sucked.

Everything has been warranty.

I’ve had 14 different recalls.

I’ve owned it for 30 months. It’s been in the shop 30-40 days. Mostly waiting for parts…

Exhaust heat exchanger
2 cats cleaned
2 cats replaced
12V battery
Belt integrated starter generator

We can love the truck- and I do…but we can also admit Ford really blew the execution on this one…

I paid $74k

Trade in is $35k. 53k miles, less than 3 years old.

I should have just bought the Coyote!
I truly feel your pain but my list is longer on my ‘22 Limited PB with 27k miles on it. Where did you get your trade in value?
It's a common thing on any forum now a days. and also as @HammaMan said, run the numbers and look at the overall percentages of no issues compared to issues. I will say it's unfortunate there are individuals that have been the unlucky ones to have non-stop issues which more times than not seem to be their dealers look to be the root cause of their grief. But I agree with you, if you aren't happy then get rid of it and move on.
while I am happy for all of you that have had a wonderful experience with your Powerboost … the idea of a forum is to learn from other people’s experiences… so just to say “get rid of it “ is kinda BS. The number of issues some of us have tried to work through is debilitating to reading it off. I wouldn’t even try to trade my truck and take the hit when the air coming out of the vents smells like a week old gym towel. Now that, that issue seems to resolved , I’m shopping .

KBB.com - trade in value - provided my vin.

Check it versus a standard 3.5 EB…..the PB is worth $2k less on a 22 Lariat Supercrew. I’m sure it will vary by trim level, mileage, etc. But, in my case KBB says the trade in for a PB is lower than the same truck with a 3.5 and no hybrid.

I’ll just break down the math from my end. PB owners who have problem free trucks- I honestly am happy for you, and frankly I’m a bit jealous because when everything is running, it’s an awesome truck

Think I paid an extra $3500 for the Powerboost versus the standard 3.5 in a Lariat (btw, get to know the technicians on a first name basis, they will tell you the 2.7 is the best engine for a F150 because they don’t see them enough to know how to work on them…but they don’t see 2021 forward 3.5’s either)

$2k less trade in plus $3.5k initial acquisition fee premium divided by 30 months…$183 per month if my math is correct- $5,500 divided by 30.

That will buy you enough gas to go over 1,000 miles per month, free, conservatively.

I think for Lariat and above, the Powerboost is a no cost option for the last couple of model years.

I’m sure meeting CAFE standards versus the market perception of vehicle reliability and overall cost of ownership have absolutely nothing to do with the extra high voltage battery, second cooling loop that has a
heat exchanger post cat that maybe there a “customer satisfaction program” to fix, two inverters, a extra inline electric motor pre 10R80 (hopefully you have the one with the cdf drum bushing that does not slide and you have the updated anodized f clutch drum), electric brakes. Cats that don’t plug up before your PCM gets set to “lean” to get your cats up to temp in time so the particulate matter burns off…

Yep. 2.7. 3.5. 5.0. Get a post 12/2022 version, you got a keeper.

Hybrids have been around for decades. Ford's been building them for more than 20 years.

So all the components making up the Powerboost aren't exactly new, technologically speaking. The issue with CDF drum applies to the 2.7, 3.5, & 5.0, as well.

The exhaust heat exchanger is indeed a Powerboost exclusive. But it's barely more than an inconvenience to have that repair performed, at this point.

Like you said….they’ve been making them for 20 years. Buy one new, it’s free. Sell one, it’s worth less.

The market does not lie.
