Pulled truck out of garage and noted a slightly pink fluid stain on the garage floor. Check the fluid levels including oil, all seemed fine.

Driving truck immediately noticed A/C no longer working. Even at Max fan speed, hardly blowing any air, which is warm. I assume this is related to the fluid leak?

Truck is less than 1 month old, and already heading back to the dealer. I realize shit happens, but of the many, many vehicles I have owned, never had to return to the dealer so soon.

Did a quick search for fluid leak and A/C but didn't find much other than a long Heat exchanger thread. I have not received any error codes on truck or FP.

I also had my fan stop working for a period of time, but I did not have a leak. While driving home, the fan slowed considerably, and then stopped working. To me, it seemed like it wasn't a mechanical issue, and the fan was not being commanded to run. Once I got home, I shut the truck off, it sat overnight, and worked fine the next day.

After searching some other Ford forums, sounds like this may be an A/C compressor leak. Seems odd, since if this is the issue, it's usually seen on older vehicles from gasket wear. Regardless, doesn't bode well for Ford Q/C of $80k new vehicles.

Are you still under warranty?

And one day people will realize that QC from major manufacturers and the cost of the vehicle have zero correlation these days.

Yup, that seems about right.

Under warrant? I sure hope so given the truck is less than 30 days old. It’s more of an inconvenience factor and lack of trust in driving this new vehicle. Fortunately our long road trip isn’t for a couple weeks.

These things happen, they are an inconvenience to weather, but a relatively minor one.

On the bright side, an AC oil/refrigerant leak is pretty easy to diagnose and fix - much easier than some of the issues people have with our trucks, and hopefully will get fixed promptly and correctly. Be grateful you have a warranty and a nice truck, let the dealer fix it, and move on.

Or don’t, be unhappy, hate the company you purchased from, and consult the forums to vent about their quality control.

Wish you the best, good luck!

Easy. We are on the same page. I also did not say QC as a separate cost. But there is a large group of people (Ford owners and owners of other vehicles) who always state that the issue they have should not be an issue on a vehicle that costs $xx. For major manufacturers (right or wrong) and how they run their lines, there is no difference in QC on their cheapest and their most expensive vehicles. Ford obviously has major QC issues as evidenced by their 3-4x increase in warranty cost per vehicle since 2020, which is the main reason that I would like to see Farley go.

Not angry, just a bit disappointed. Hopefully it will be a quick diagnosis and fix…

Hi there, I'd be happy to look into your F-150 concerns on my end. Will you send us a message with your VIN and dealership info? I can look into things on my end.

As someone with a lot of experience in this type of assembly environment - let’s say the UAW employee who usually installs AC compressor lines on the F150 line took a week off. The person filling in didn’t realize those lines can’t be kinked when they’re removed from the crate prior to installation, or wasn’t told the o rings need a special lube prior to assembly.

There is a mid line auditor (QC) just after AC install, but maybe prior to pressurization/system charge. How would they know? Or maybe the system was charged, it cooled great at ELA (end line audit) and was sent on its way? Or maybe quality saw the bastard kinking the lines, but hates dealing with his ass, and it was almost break time.

Don’t take it personally. I’m not defending Ford, it’s employees, or it’s attention to detail. It needs work. But just be happy you have a minor issue that shouldn’t be a thorn in your side for the duration of your ownership, get it fixed, and let it drift.
