I ordered my truck last November. I was originally told it might come in December, then January, then March, then then April, then May. I just found out that it's now 8/28/21. I understand the chip shortage but what I find unforgivable is the absolute lack of information coming from Ford. All the information I have found has been on this forum website, YouTube, news websites, etc. but NOTHING from Ford and only minimal information from my sales person. Hey Ford, how about being proactive and forthcoming with your customers! I'm very close to cancelling my order and getting the new 2022 Tundra. Rant over.

Your rant is 100% justified. They have done an abysmal job at communicating. In fact, they haven't communicated at all. They just keep pushing back the eta's with no explanation, apologies, or information. What a crap job they are doing handling this situation. All while completing and shipping new trucks in May?? We all understand this is a difficult time for vehicle purchases, but wow, they failing royally and angering a lot of people by remaining silent. At least appeal somewhat to those affected by showing there is some type of a plan to work on the backlog of trucks (instead of prioritizing and completing new orders). What a terrible image this portrays to all of us affected.

Toyota doesn't really encourage custom orders and Ford is rather ambivalent about them.

I doubt Ford is able to justify hiring people to hold hands with their customers waiting for custom orders to their stockholders when that can be delegated to the dealerships that have a monopoly on new car sales.

The slow arrivals of new trucks and failures to meet demand are pretty well publicized. I would rather Ford be solving the problem at hand than drafting letters that say nothing more about the issues than the obvious.

All that being said, I would 100% be seriously considering canceling an order if my truck was delayed and sitting in a lot somewhere. It's a challenge enough for them to get shit right the first time on the assembly line. I would be leery about environmental damage in addition to the rework done to install missing components.

I put in my custom order in March and it floored me seeing people waiting on their Fall 2020 orders when mine got a blend date of April 20th. We ended up buying off the lot (bought it for camping, with the KC plant shutdown and its extensions we didn't want to risk missing out) and I'm glad I did with the new June 14th KC extension. I can't imagine the frustration from everyone who's been waiting almost a year. :(

Totally concur with the OP. And about communication: Ford doesn't need to manage email lists and track progress per truck. It has a dealer network, for God's sake. In fact, it has a comms preference hierarchy in its order system that directs info exclusively to the dealer/owner. An outline of how its making 'store vs. ship' decisions, the criteria its using for production scheduling- these are the kinds of tactical business decisions Ford has right in front of them. Is communicating these basics, let's say monthly, to its 3400 U.S. and Canadian dealers beyond its corporate capacity? Of course not. It's a 'mushroom' corporate culture issue. My dealer (Granger, Iowa) feels naked when trying to help its customers sort out their orders, and feels abandoned by Ford. OTOH did everyone see that Ford just emailed all its Bronco order holders, explaining in general terms the issue that's slowing deliveries and pleading for their patience? I think Ford simply takes the F150 owner group for granted.

I'm on my FIRST "rescheduled build date" and thanks to all the really pissed off people posting here, I'm NOT waiting for the "second".

I'm ordering as many identical F150s from as many dealerships as I can TODAY.

There will be a lot of "twins" rolling around my area a year from now and that's just fine by me.

10 years from now I won't have any problem finding parts!
They are not asking for deposits?

It's atrocious. I ordered on 2/27 and my order has been rescheduled 4 times. The latest build day is 7/6. The only information I have is that it is in "Order Processing," 4 months to process an order? I've essentially written this order off and reserved a second truck with the same dealer that shows "Awaiting Shipment."
