Has anyone been on the Knik Glacier road in Alaska? My understanding is it's pretty cool but requires some water crossings. Looking for info on best time of year to do this and if it's even possible or totally stupid to do it in an F150.

Haven't been there since the late 80's when stationed at Fort Richardson. I remember driving to a parking area and then riding our mountain bikes in. Best to not going during break up in the spring.

Thanks. Best I can tell it might be possible to take the truck a good way down the road if it's not too wide in summer. Looking at going in May and any other sites you would recommend off the beaten path.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
Come down to Dallas in late summer. Four wheel drive is mandatory to climb out of some of those potholes.

Hello,
We drove to the Knik Glacier a few winters ago before the Bronco in our FJ. It’s best to go with a group with some experienced off roaders that have made the trip before.
Usually all goes well but if it goes bad it can turn into a survival situation quickly in the winter time.
Summer time it’s dependent on the water levels with melt off.

This is probably the most accurate info for the Knik Glacier drive.
