Hi all, I want to circle back and report how my system is behaving a couple of months in. For those who do not want to read further moral of my story is to follow the advice of others who have been there and done that.
Initially I was a bit disappointed in the system mostly due to the loud chime issue. I did not follow others advice which was a big mistake.
Following my install I had tuned the Key with the ACM EQ set to flat and then changed back to the factory EQ setting to return the factory chimes to a tolerable level. Unhappy with this I bit the bullet and moved the chimes to the IPC as well as turned off several of non-essential chimes, like the startup do-do-do and double honk. I re-tuned and things were much better.
But I was unhappy with the base so I installed an 8 inch powered subwoofer behind the back seat. This was a Blaupunkt sub I bought off of Amazon for $120. I did not want to fork over $300 for the HS10. Once the sub was installed things really changed. I actually had base, not road-pounding base, but enough for my taste.
Looking though the Forscan spreadsheet I came across a setting to change the read door speakers from full range to speaker and tweeter. I had previously installed two-ways. I am not sure it affected the sound up front, but the rears now sound much better. I also re-tuned following this change.
My final tweak was to run a dedicated trigger wire from fuse #2 to both my Key and sub. I had noticed the Key would send a “pop” every 5 seconds or so once I turned off my trunk, not every time but occasionally.
So here is my take away. FOLLOW the advice of others who have done this before you.
1. Move the chimes to the IPC and turn off the extraneous ones.
2. Set the factory EQ to flat and leave it.
3. Install block off plates and sound deadening.
4. Install a subwoofer.
5. Run a trigger wire to the Key and sub
Finally, a thank you to everyone on this forum and SGS.
