I'm a form follows function guy.

In other words, I don't do things for looks alone.

Not that I don't care how things look but there has to be a reason behind what I do, other than pure aesthetics.

I've read guys putting on flaps, to protect trailers and keep snow off the running boards. Perfectly good reasons.

My current, 01 XLT, came with OEM cab steps and fender flares. The first 4 yrs. of it's life, was spent off road and in the mud, nearly everyday for work. Flaps probably would've been dragged off inside of a week, so never had them. The new truck won't see such extreme service. What I think, is the flares stick out just enough, to protect the truck from the worst of road spray and I've never had snow build up on the cab steps. I'm also certain, that they save from door dings.

In order to not mess with production scheduling, I didn't order such add ons this time.

My boat trailer, does tell a tale of numerous rock chips. No denying that.

Until we get the truck, I won't know if we'll need cab steps but I've got them picked out if so.

I doubt I'll be adding wheel well liners. Yeah, I know they look better. I have my reasons.

Body styles and related aerodynamics change. I've no idea if the new flares will perform as well as my current versions so, decisions.

Leaning towards flares but don't know. I can wait and see how the truck body sheds spray on it's own first.

I'd like to protect the new travel trailer. It has rock guard on the front cap but fewer chips on the frame, isn't a bad thing.

Is there an easily removable version of those full width, fringed skirts you see sometimes? I'll be towing conventionally, so whatever it is, the receiver will already be occupied.

I started out with OEM-style flares but they did not stop all the mud and snow from flinging up on the sides of my truck. I then removed them and installed Gatorback mud flaps which solved that problem. The Gatorbacks are expensive, especially if you want logos on them. I just have the blank stainless steel. Once things warm up I will be modifying the flares to fit around the flaps.

I haven't found flares I can live with (Too big and only in black) so I'll be using mud flaps.

I like the Rokblokz, because they are flat and flexible. and have stainless hardware.

Moving on.

I'd love to see one in person first but I'm leaning toward Weathertech, for the bed and tailgate mat. I like how it comes up on the sides, even just that little bit.

As for floor mats, gonna give Lasfit a try. I like their design better than weather tech and that the material is more flexible.

I have an Access Original Tonneau on my current truck and like it fine, so, that was easy.

IF, we wind up needing cab steps, I like the APS in stainless steel.

I fix software bugs!

Me either..... not a fan.... the flaps and flares attach funny IMO. Like they're going to fall off. And the flares' rubber gasket against the body, no thanks. To each their own though, a lot of owner like them....

I put 3M clear strips (can be removed) on my boat trailer rails from the tongue to about where they straighten. My TH has diamond plate on the front to protect.

What are your reasons for not wanting wheel well liners? I would say they provide both function and looks, especially on a lighter color.

I'm not saying never but on my current truck, when it's job was to be in the mud everyday, its a lot easier to clean the undercarriage without. More to clean, true but easier.

That won't be a daily part of this truck's job, so I may change my mind later but not before I've made any decisions on suspension enhancements., if needed.

oh yeah, I could definitely see an issue with stuff getting behind the liner

My pickup has step boards.
I just got the ford flaps to keep crap from building up on top of them.
Without them, there was just enough space for debris to get flung onto them in the exact spot I step on when getting in.
The cheap flaps actually took care of that.
But, my pickup is very seldom off pavement except for my driveway.
I could care less about spray on the sides, but having crap land on the steps is a different animal.
