I checked the tracker, and my truck surprisingly showed up at the dealer about 20 days early, despite me ordering 7/17/20. This is fantastic news. So I decided to drive over and take a look as the dealership is closed today. Sure enough there she was. Now, thanks to these forums, I’ve got a half dozen or so issues that have me a little bugged. I don’t doubt the dealer can fix them, but I wanted to get everyone’s opinion. I am realistic and understand these are trucks and Ford can produce one truck every 53 seconds, so things are gonna happen. I know I’m excited but I also don’t want to be unrealistic about some of the issues.

1. All doors seem to fit different, more so compared to other trucks on the lot.
2. The passenger side two doors are the worst, and one seems to be even looks like it’s not all the way shut.
3. I’m waiting to see a tracking form from some of the other people that do that on the forums, but it appears as if this truck was sent by truck rather than rail from Missouri to Utah. It is absolutely filthy, and that bugs me a little bit. I know this is not a BMW that comes wrapped or transported in enclosed car haulers but still. I know it will get cleaned, but still.
3. Despite the dirt, I noticed a half dozen or so paint imperfections. Some little dimples, one was paint over a hair, and one was paint over some other foreign thing causing a bump. Again, probably something nobody would notice, but still.
4. Driver door seal is not sung, I know you can pull them down, but again it should be snug.
5. Gasket under the mirror is tweaked.
6. Hood vent panel loose.

Like I said, I don’t doubt that all of these issues can be resolved fairly quickly. I just don’t know if I should point them all out or not. I’ve had many new trucks in my lifetime, so I know what to expect. I also know that during these times we all get excited and overly critical at things, and that’s what I don’t want to be is overly critical and unrealistic. I just wanted to get some feedback from you guys on how much of a stink to push. Also I have to consider that if I make an issue with the misaligned doors or the mirror gasket etc., that involves somebody getting in and adjusting things and potentially opening up the issue of making something else off. I also deal with the fleet salesman and our relationship is such that it’s no hassle on either side, he gives me a great number and I’m not a high maintenance customer. So I don’t want all the sudden turn into a Karen.

For what it’s worth my undercarriage looked OK, only a little bit of rust on the forward part of the differential.

The doors look like they weren't shut hard. It seems like that new F150 door seals need to be worked a bit.

Let the dealer do their thing. When you do a walk through and if things are not to your liking, you can always turn it down knowing what you already cataloged.

Yes, give your dealer a chance to go over the entire truck and get it ready for you. The good thing is, you have pre-inspected it and caught the stuff that you found displeasing. Now you know what to look for when your dealer has done their job. I hope it works out for you as that is a nice red. Good luck and hopefully you will enjoy it!

I totally agree, and that was part of the reason that I wanted to post on here first to make sure that I wasn’t being unrealistic and even bringing some of those things to their attention. Like I said I value the relationship that I have with them and it goes both ways. It’s just hard when you get so excited for these things and it shows up and has got quirky little issues that are really not a big deal in the real world, but can sure seem frustrating when you’re so excited for the truck..

I agree with this. Let them do the PDI then when you go over it let them know the things you found. If the dealer wants you as a customer (and a return customer) they will make it right. If they don’t, turn it down. Congrats on one step closer to having your truck!! Love that color!

I looked over my paint for 20 minutes and didn’t find anything, the next day, I did see two specks near the roof.

One thing that I immediately spotted was the misaligned doors, before I had even gotten within 10 feet, the door gap was obvious. The problem is not the seals, they are misaligned at the hinge.

I noticed on a YouTube video, someone was showing off their new truck and showing off his new exhaust. The truck was black and the white snow in the background showed as clear as day that his doore were misaligned too.

When I brought up the doors, the dealership immediately agreed that they would fix them and it was included in the sales contract. However, I am sure that had I never mentioned it. They wouldn’t have cared. I am pretty confident that the same is true for others as well. They will be happy to sell it and if you bring it up after the fact, it will be up to you to take it up with Ford.

I took some pictures the other day. I will try to find them.

This Wednesday, I have an appointment with the dealer’s body shop to get the doors fixed. Last week they had me go to their service center, where unsurprisingly, a mechanic was unable to fix it. Then a service writer, no doubt unaware that this was between me and the dealership, tried blowing smoke and bullshitted me about the belt line trim and said they took pictures and sent them to Ford and would call back. I was pretty annoyed and waited a few days before calling back and insisting on an appointment with their body shop to have the situation remedied.

Also, pretty much every truck shipped by rail will arrive on a transport truck. I saw mine before it was washed too and it was surprisingly clean, despite many grease smudges. Mine was also a KC build and same for the one I saw on YouTube.

Unbelievable... This is all crazy. Do you have a link to the YouTube you watched? I hate to be picky.....but....these trucks are a premium too. As far as transport....generally yes, on a rail autorack to the yard, then truck to the dealer....however, mine never showed a rail car on tracking, and also showed up 18 days early.... It’s totally covered in weather dirt too... Not a huge deal, but I just want it good. I have read that KC has built F150’s for a very long time...so one would think this isint normal.

Mine was 14 days earlier than expected but they could have kept it longer if it meant the doors were put on straight. I really hope that this will be my only gripe!

Here is the video:

The door’s misalignment is most apparent when you can see the lines of snow in the background. Almost like when the paintless dent guys put a reflective grid in front of a panel they’re working on.

The HDPP trucks are only built in KC as far as I know.

Just picked mine up from Lebanon Oh. On Saturday. The. Damn Ford dealers around the Detroit area, said there was None to be had. They tried to push me into a super cab, or a crew cab. Since I have owned 3 Shorty in the last 40 years, I told them I want what I want! Don’t try to sell me what your flavor of the month is.

It was worth the 3 hour drive, plus they were open on Saturday! Thanks Lebanon Ford! BTW. my last 2008 & this one was built in KC they are the only ones that Build a (Shorty) had to wait an extra week because of the MidWest snow storm. Worth the wait!

I was adamant about a Super with 8’ box
15 years with short pickups has done nothing but piss me off.

my truck was also a KCM truck.
I have not really noticed any big things except for the door fitting at the lower section mating to the the 1/2 doors.
Bit I have not yet examined it with a fine tooth comb either.
These are mass produced vehicles and 90% of the people out there won’t notice any of this.
These are all 1000x better than anything built in the 60s to the 90s as far as fit and finish goes.
Even my old hot rods, all have fitting issues that I did not even bother to address in the restorations.
That being said, I just might go around the new one this weekend and have a closer look

For what it’s worth my undercarriage looked OK, only a little bit of rust on the forward part of the differential.

The first 3 pictures of the door fitment, to the front fender. Is that Ford specs are = flush to under flush 1mm. They do not want the door to be overflush. This would cause a wind noise, & possible water intrusion into the cab.
