It's been several years since I've been there but most of the roads are reasonably well graded. Watch out for soft sand. 4WD's can get stuck too. You've probably seen this page.

I did Pinkham Canyon Road in a stock FX4 with only AT tires as an upgrade:

Went from Joshua Tree south to the 10. The trail is narrow so you will get a lot of brush rubbing against the side of your truck. There is one section where having a spotter and good line choice will help you not damage your vehicle on rocks, and there are enough rocks around where you can rearrange them if you need to.
