Hi guys quick question, I had a flat rear right tire the other day and had to put my spare on as I was out with my son running errands and stuff. The next day I dropped the tire off at a tire shop down the street from my work but they couldn’t plug it because whatever caused the flat was too close to the sidewall. I had them replace the tire with same brand and size. Hankook dynapro at2
The tires I had were replaced 15 thousand miles ago when I bought the truck and are not worn very much
Will there be any issues with the new tire being on the right rear?
Truck is 4x4 but has only been used once or twice last winter when we got some snow

The tire shop didn’t measure the other tires but I can get a measurement some tomorrow when I am at work

I think you'll be fine. In the early days of AWD systems they would make a big deal about this. But these 4wd or mostly rwd systems are not as sensitive to minute tire diameter differences from uneven wear. You went with the same brand tire, so that's even more reassuring things will be fine.

I have BFG K02's on my truck from discount tire. I had gotten a nail near the sidewall in one of my tires and discount just replaced the one tire. I was taken back by it too, I thought how can you only replace one, now I have 1 new tire and 3 with 20k on them...but it's been that way now for 34k miles, no issues to report, and I've kept up rotating it around like normal.

Also I drive a Lariat so my truck is in Auto 4WD most of the time, and still no symptoms or negative side effects.

You could always put it on the right rear, and go do a little burnout, to wear it down to match the other 3...

Normally I would say replace both but with your low mileage you will be just fine. And, I will add remember that your rear axle is free wheeling to allow vehicles to corner without binding and a tire worn differently is miniscule compared to this.

The tire is on the right rear(passenger side). And I like your idea about a little burnout to even them up lol

I had a very similar occurrence. Since my spare was the same tire, I decided to buy two, and move the one good (but worn) tire to the spare and put the two new ones one my rear axle. I probably did not need to do this but my OCD kicked in.

IT's not a hard and fast rule, it's going to depend on how worn everything else is. Generally if it is not AWD the best move is to pair it with another tire not too worn, probably currently sitting on a non drive axle, and move the pair to the drive axle for optimal traction. I've done it multiple times on trucks.

I had one slashed with just short of 30K on my factory Hankooks. I always hated that set anyway and then They caught the guy and got me restitution. I handed them the cost of one of the brand new all terrains I wanted and the court got it from him so I took that and some Ford points and a rebate and got a new set of 20 inch ATs for like 900 when all was said and done. I was going to make that move in a few months so I figured why not bump it up.

But in your boat getting one is no biggie.

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
Not many people know this but it is against the law to get a nail, screw, or screwdriver puncture in the middle of a tire. It must be on the edge so as to provide the most safety to the driver and profit to the wrecker driver and the tire store.

Driver safety may occasionally be a loose definition if said driver is in the fast lane of a rural interstate full of big rigs passing other big rigs at +1 mph to the posted limit. The tire will then shred and one will be forced to purchase a new one. Unfortunately, that still does not solve the middle of the fast lane problem.

The idea of swapping out the spare was a good one. Had not thought of that.
