Is there anyway to record from the stock cameras for accident evidence?

In a previous vehicle I did the entire thing where I added the full camera system. PITA, and really it provided more info than I needed.

These trucks already have great cameras fore and aft, can't we just utilize them and have a system that records for us in case there is an accident we need to view?

Any ideas?

That's a great idea for some of those aftermarket gadget gurus.

Yeah......still waiting from early 2021. Even if this service were a subscription I would buy into it.

No, it's not possible.

What signaling do they use? Biggest issue I'd think would be its 178 degree FOV. Tough to make sense of such an image without software behind it.

The cameras themselves use GMSL, which is an optical signal that feeds back into the IPMA. You can get a GMSL to USB converter and record the signal using a laptop or small desktop (like a MAC Mini), but then you need a second GMSL converter to then turn around and send it back to the IPMA or you are disconnected from the truck.

I guess, in theory, it could be done. But it would be a 100% custom solution using some pretty expensive converters. Also have to wonder how much lag running it through a computer and relaying back to the IPMA would induce, which would really affect lane centering.
