Last week I was heading out to leave work at 5, and when I tried to start my truck, it would not start, kept saying stop safely now.
I had both batteries tested and found the small aux battery had a bad cell, so I replaced it.
The main 12V was replaced about a year ago and tested good, still wouldn't start, had it towed to the dealer.
Dealer just told me there was an Internal Failure with the Battery Junction Box, I assume this is a fuse block of some sort, no idea what caused the issue.
I have 100K on my truck, and my extended warranty is good for up to 108K so I guess I'm lucky as this is an 11-hour job per the dealer and about $2,500.

I'm debating trading it in, as I had to have a new transmission put in at 75K as well, I really do like my truck, just not sure I trust it anymore...

Can you extend your extended warranty? That might be the most cost effective solution.

OTOH, there have been some improvements by the time we get to 2025, so starting over with a latest and greatest PB might not be a bad trick. That would start the clock over on warranty too.

Well I could argue that you now have the newer updated 10r80?(?) and the battery junction box is probably an outlier.

It's true that trading the truck in for a new one (under warranty) would definitely be a way to stay in a warranty. But if your truck is paid for, you are saving more money every month to cover the costs of a future unwarranted repair?

It's a value equation indeed.

I will look into extending my extended warranty, as I'd like to wait a few more years, so maybe I can buy a nice used 2025 or 2026 model as I'd like a platinum and the cost for them new is way more than I want to spend right now...

So I called my extended warranty company CNA, and apparently, I have their very best warranty or wrap as they call it, purchased pre-covid as now it's no longer offered, but I am covered on just about everything except the battery up until 999,999 miles as long as I am still the owner, $200 deductible, so I guess I'll hang on to the truck, since its paid off.

The High Voltage Battery Junction Box had an internal failure, or that's all they told me, who knows what exactly failed, my guess would be one of the contactors, but I could be wrong.
