I can't find any explanation of the fuel economy gauge that's up from trip 1 info. nyideas how it works? Mileage doesn't go with anything else close to it

I generally fill up with top tier gas from 76. Always get pretty close to the same DTE once filled. On a road trip I filled up at a gas station that was not top tier. I saw DTE drop by 50 miles once back on the road. Pretty sure it has to do with the ethanol percentage.

This isn't about DTE. Go to trip meter 2, up one to trip 1, then up 1 more to fuel economy which looks like instant mpg with avg. Ain't even close to avg.

One uses total mileage from start of driving one uses per fill up if you're resetting it. As I understand how it works. So average is total miles driven. Instant will vary a lot depending on driving conditions. That’s not an average.

On instant I can see 40 going down hill or 7 with my foot in it. That’s not average. That’s usage at the time. Trip is average

You can get some freaky good momentary mpg numbers. Easy way to monitor mpg on longer term basis is to use an app like Fuelly.

You can consider looking up how to "calibrate AFE".

Top Tier has nothing to do with ethanol or octane. Rather, it's about the detergents and cleansers in the fuel.

Around here, Top Tier has ethanol, just like everything else.

As a general rule, 10% ethanol will get 3mpg less than 0%; this is a consequence of ethanol having about 2/3 the energy by volume of gasoline.
