One thing you can do is find a set of strap on sound gear. I have on from some years ago. It has a receiver and you can listen to each one. Use this to pin in on the real source.

Well, the hybrid mode is driven by a motor on the front end of the transmission. There is an over-running clutch between the engine and the hybrid motor. So it is always turning whether powering/generating or not. I would not think it involved. A rumble is normally gear related. U-Joints can give a load related noise, but I wouldn't label it rumbling, more like a snapping-popping.
mine is like a bzzzz. Like it could be electronic sounding it could be grinding it’s hard to know. I’ve tried to play with it but it’s actually not super easy to re-create, because it’s very specific. Mine is very short like .5-1 second so I don’t even have the opportunity to hang on the gas to see if I can make it last longer it’s already over as I notice it

That may be U-joints failing. They are very load dependent. How many miles on your truck?

An update to this noise on my truck.
Brought in to the dealer for the hard shifting mentioned the hum. Dealer said it was definitely the transmission. Warranty put a brand new transmission in at 89,200 miles. No more intermittent hum and shifts smoother then when I bought it.

I think some of us have different issues. Mine is well documented at this point and happens between 50-60mph in any gear Ive tried from 7 on up. Its a low oscillating rumble that can be felt through the steering wheel. My truck has done it since NEW and now only has 10k miles. I did notice it got much harder to detect, but still present, after the fluid was changed because of a damaged valve body from being underfilled by 3qts at the factory. Im inclined to say it is indeed transmission or tq related instead of driveline angle related as I had original hypothesized.

This piece of shit will limp along until I get an f250 or GM2500 in ten years or so.

That’s exactly how mine started. Just a hum/vibration in the pedal from 50-70 at 68k miles. Would feel like it’d slow down see rpm drop slightly. I am on the highway a lot I average around 36k miles a year on my trucks. Around 76k miles the hard shifting started. Drove it like that since I’m mostly in 10th gear anyway. Would hard shifting from 4th to 6th. Then it started from 4th to 7th. Some days would shift fine all day. Sometimes it’d downshift from 10th to 4th and start shuttering to take off. This was around 10k miles after the humming started. Fast forward to 82k miles on the dot. Hooked up a trailer to it and it did not like pulling a load. Would start slipping in 5th and 6th pretty hard. Unhook the trailer. The hum and then vibration in the pedal while it’s humming starts again. Brought it to the dealer told him all the symptoms and he asked if the hum sounded like it was from the center and sometimes to the side? All I know is after A new transmission this is all gone and the truck doesn’t make the noise and vibration anymore. Just figured I’d share.

did they ever try just resetting the transmission learning?

Yeah they had to do that first then got extended warranty involved after. They drove it another 30 miles and no change. It also said the transmission oil was burnt in the findings and stated some stuff about the cdf drum which is the cause of the hard shifting in this one. So as far as the oil being burnt I don’t know if that was cdf drum related from the sleeve sliding and it slipping sometimes.

So I got my truck new about couple weeks ago. Received it with 140 miles. They had to grab the truck from another dealer. Anyways first time driving it on highway, I had grinding noise at 60mph (not sure what gear I was in) sound dint go away until I notice the truck shifted out of gear. Then around 60-70 coasting speed and acceleration I would hear a hum/buzz and feel it through the gas pedal every split second. It would last about few more trips. Now at around 600miles it’s gone. So I still have no idea what was happening.

I hadn’t checked in on this thread in a while. Just wanted to provide a few additional details for my situation since some new folks have posted on here.

I got to a point where I could replicate the issue on demand. If cruising in 10th gear, I could tap the gas to get it to downshift to 9, upon downshift the noise would occur. It also occurred when not shifting gears with light throttle and grade in 8,9,10th gear as others have described. Again, rumble strip noise (2-3 seconds). It would randomly occur at lower speeds in 6th or 7th, but probably could count those on 1 hand.

I had the transmission service done 6,200 miles ago and the noise/feeling has not returned. ??

I have a little over 10k miles remaining on my warranty. If it’s going to return, I’m sure it will in 10,001 miles.

Mine would do the exact same thing with light acceleration or grade increase. You could 90% of the time make it the hum come back. Only time I couldn’t make it do it was in manual mode in 7th (in the 50-60mph) range. I also had a handful of times it’d happen between 38-45mph. It was more prevalent in the 50s and at 68-73mph it’d do it about every 10 seconds. Glad it’s gone though hopefully it doesn’t come back with the new unit.
