Hi all,

With the PB, how do you make sure for example the airbags aren't operable?

The reason I'm asking is I want to hardwire a dash cam. Just to be sure I wanted to remove all power from the truck. In a normal ICE vehicle, I'd unhook neg battery cable and poof, power gone.

On the PB, I'm not sure if this removes all power from the system? I'd think I can just remove the battery cable, but wanted to check for sure.
Also, how do you jump this thing (if it ever needs it)? Our older hybrid (Niro) had a battery reset button I think.

I installed a dash cam without disconnecting the battery. Mine was just connect the ground and add a fuse splitter.

You can usually jump them by finding an old railroad track somewhere near you and getting so speed.

Joking aside you just have to apply 12 volts to the battery under the hood and then it is able to energize the 12 volt system and the high voltage pack is then accessible to run the truck. No real starting amps needed. We have started my wife escape hybrid that way several times when we ha 12v issues

I want to be able to run the cables behind the airbags in the A-pillars to make sure they don't interfere with potential airbag deployment. I do not want power in them when near them like that.

As far providing power, basically with your normal portable jumpstarter, right?

Would then removing (-) battery cable do any harm to the truck, or can I easily do that to work on the dashcam?

You can remove the battery cables with harm to the truck.

When I ran my cables down the A pillar I just pushed them in from the front windshield area and didn't take the plastic off.

Until I figure out where to put it, I just have the rear camera wire going down behind the trim and sitting in the door pocket.

I put the camera in the middle with the lines going into the headliner.

Then I poked it in going across the window.

Then into the crack here.

Then down behind the door seal.
Right along side the airbag and it didn't complain.

Did you mean "you can remove battery with no harm to the truck" by a chance? :)

I'm surprised you ran yours down the driver side, with the fuse box in the passenger footwell, why work across to driver side?

Yea, my plan is to do it like on our 2017 - from interior fuse box, up the A-pillar and behind headliner. To the rear I'll probably go through the floor track, so I don't have to worry about curtain airbags.

Safe to say - I can normally undo neg battery cable like on ICE trucks without issues then...

There is a cable pathway in the right A-Pillar that you can clip your wiring into. I don’t know if the same exists on the driver side.

Ditto
i was going to add that. there is plenty of room behind the air bags, in the cable ways

You are right, sorry about that. I ran the power down the passenger side and the rear camera wire down the drivers side. Just went out an checked to make sure. Thought it was weird yesterday when there was only one wire in the A-pillar.

Yes, you can disconnect the battery without effecting the truck, but the PowerBoost has an extra battery under the back seat that you might have to disconnect as well to remove all power. (if I understand correctly). I haven't had a dead battery or tried to remove power yet, so I am not absolutely positive. Just going with past experience with other hybrid vehicles (Escape, Fusion Energi, and my father Prius).
