All the best part is you stayed on the road and the airbags didn’t deploy. There are so many people here in Northern Indiana where we’re at, which is rural 2 lane roads. Quite a few people swerve to miss a deer and hit a tree or roll a truck in the ditch. Others have airbags deployed when they hit the deer then they can’t see what the hell is going on and they hit a tree afterwards.

Your rate sucks. You’re in this situation but sadly it does happen. The best part about all this is you didn’t get banged up and the truck can be fixed.
I’ve sort of “trained” myself to not panic at the sight of deer on the road while driving for the exact reasons you stated. I feel like sometimes it’s better to just hit the thing then slam on the brakes or swerve into oncoming traffic. My wife and I are very lucky it happened the way it did with no injuries.

Coming from NW Colorado mule deer country, that's about the least damage I've seen done on a vehicle without a grill guard. Sympathies and congratulations :)

Honestly with no painted parts or headlights damaged I'd be trolling LKQ or ebay for a grille, shutter assembly, condenser, and radiator. Might need a core support but it just bolts in.

There are tons of high quality (unfortunately chinese) stock replacements for the grille and shutters on ebay. Stick with OE for the radiator and condenser though.

I’m gonna try and see what the insurance wants to do first before i start diving into that. I have very basic mechanical experience and certainly do not trust myself to make the repairs the truck needs

You know I was always debating on a grille guard before this happened but I might’ve just been sold on one

If you have no fluid leaks and the engine still runs... You're not very screwed... True, it isn't pretty and you need to get repairs done...

Does you AC work? That looks like the AC condenser maybe.

Sorry your truck was damaged but maybe a bit of good news for you. Typically hitting an animal is deemed "unavoidable" and covered by comprehensive insurance rather than collision. As such it shouldn't be a "chargable accident" for driving record or rating purposes. Some policies even have a lower deductible for comprehensive losses!
Hope it's fixed quickly and like new!

Retired and not looking. I am driving the wife crazy.
I was thinking about your grille guard comment. Those are common in Central Texas, which is where we see the majority of our deer and pigs. They work great with deer but are a little more problematic with pigs. One tends to go over pigs, as opposed to into the deer.

The only concern you might have with a grille guard is an off-center front end hit. It might get into the frame. That is what happened on my 2023 total. Otherwise it was fixable.

You might also get them to check your frame for integrity. The guys in my initial insurance guarantee shop checked, found a small problem, and refused the repair. They ultimately totaled mine. Get it in writing if they tell you the frame is OK.

that’s my thoughts exactly and im currently waiting to get in touch with an adjuster. I’m anticipating on this being a 2-3 week ordeal. I know for a fact I don’t have any rental car insurance but I’ll still look into it
You need to add rental coverage to your policy ASAP. I pay less than $50 a year for it and I'm covered up to a full-size truck. The cost is minimal upfront to be covered in the event you're going to need it...like now.

This is my first ever claim I’ve ever had on with any car insurance company I’ve dealt with so I’m hoping it’s not gonna be anything crazy. I’m located in Georgia and with it being an animal collision and not a vehicle to vehicle I’m hoping it’ll either go up very little or not at all but we’ll see. I’d love to fix it myself but I honestly don’t have the time.
Insurance will handle it just fine. You'll be inconvenienced not having your truck for a couple weeks or more.
