I’ll try them. How are they in the snow?
After running Toyo Open Country A/T III tires in the snow, I finally made the decision to buy a second set of wheels and dedicated snow tires for my truck. The Toyos aren't horrible, but they aren't anything special in the snow and they get beat by plenty of normal highway tires. They didn't inspire confidence when braking and they weren't nearly as good as the Falken A/T3W or Nitto Terra Grappler G2 tires that I have run in the past.

Now that I run dedicated snow tires in the winter, I have much better grip on snow/ice and in the other 3 seasons when I run my Continental Terrain Contact A/T tires, I have much better wet weather traction then I ever had with the Toyos.

TireRack did a bunch of tire testing with a 2022 Ford Explorer ST in 2022, here are few of their results:

Stopping Distance Snow 25-0 mph
Continental TerrainContact H/T 55.4ft
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T 60.3ft
Michelin Defender LTX M/S 61.9ft
Continental TerrainContact A/T 64.9ft
Vredestein Pinza HT 65.2ft
Firestone Destination A/T2 65.3ft
Vredestein Pinza AT 67.7ft
Toyo Open Country A/T III 80.6ft
Falken WildPeak A/T3W 82.2ft

Stopping Distance Wet 50-0 mph
Continental TerrainContact H/T 122.8ft
Continental TerrainContact A/T 125.4ft
Falken WildPeak A/T3W 127.3ft
Vredestein Pinza HT 132.1ft
Michelin Defender LTX M/S 133.9ft
Firestone Destination A/T2 134.9ft
Vredestein Pinza AT 136.1ft
Mickey Thompson Baja Boss A/T 148.5ft
Toyo Open Country A/T III 150.0ft

Oh, good post. Which tire are you using for dedicated snow? I have a lot of wet and snow in the sierra mountains. I use the ridge grappler now but haven’t compared it to anything else.

I have not but reviews in the snow are about average for AT tires.

I am running the previous Gen 6112 up front and 5160's in the rear with a +1" block. Being a Powerboost only hit about 2" of lift up front and still have a little rake which I like(seems to help with mpg too.

Wheels are Black Rhino Warlord +12 offset. No rubbing whatsoever but I know I am at the max size for my current set up.

I run Bridgestone Blizzak DM-V2 snow tires on both my vehicles and I'm very happy with them. They handle steep inclines very well and make it easy to drive up or down icy roads with confidence. With my wife's smaller Nissan in particular, even when I can see that several other people have gotten stuck or slid off the road, I'm able to weave between disabled vehicles on steep narrow roads without worrying about sliding into them.

Hmm I don’t have dedicated snow rims/tires but I’d like too.

I notice the sizes stop at 285/50/r20
That’s only 31” tire.

what’s the logic on that?

I'm running them in the stock size for my truck which is 275/60R20 (33"x11"). You can usually get good deals on used wheels on facebook marketplace if you aren't too picky.

I am very happy with my General Grabber ATX's, same as what's on the Tremor. Very stable in the rain, reasonably quiet.
+2 on these. Very happy with mine. Great looks, quiet, etc. Would buy again.

I just replaced my factory Michelins with the Continental Terrain Contact ATs in the OE 18s. The ride and road noise is as good as the Michelins but they seem much better in the rain. I haven’t had a chance to try them in the snow but anything has to be better that the Michelin XCs that came on the truck.

BFG KO2 are a classic with an aggressive look. My dad has always had good luck with those.

If you’re looking for an aggressive looking AT tire I’ve come to the conclusion that they all suck and if you have traction issues look into diy siping. It’s a night and day difference to how much better my Toyo at3’s grip now.
