We had it put in the ground in may

but this evening i was checking weather in weather underground and all the weather stations around us and BOOM all the phones went crazy , computer screen went flashy
tornado is imminent ,
weather stations on weather underground gave us about 12 minute track to be over head
this was about 6 pm, doppler had it at around 17k feet.
grabbed the dog, grabbed phones and wife and off we went
while in there it went over us, but had to be still way up there because we only got 46mph sustained winds and .49 yes .49 inches of rain in less than 20 minutes
so glad we had ample warning.

never thought we would need it

I'm glad you and yours are ok. That shelter looks very sturdy.

You've got the solution. I'm originally from north Alabama, I'm familiar with twisters too. I'm glad I live in Colorado now. No more sirens in the middle of the night.

Glad everyone is OK. Should have made it a little bigger so you could drive your truck in. I have a nice basement, but my truck would still be toast! ;)

was going to put truck in the big garage with the bus, but i thought the big garage would explode at 100 mph so it hid under the carport
thankfully we saw winds no where near 100
i watched more video this morning from the clouds, we made a good choice
visibility went to less than 100 feet when the big stuff collided above us and was hauling tail
but it appeared to be 700 feet or maybe a bit higher, above the houses.
my pecan tree is missing ALOT of its fruit this morning, it was just starting to drop them

i was very very surprised the emergency notifications gave us 10 or so minutes of notice.
that was amazing.
the county's updated system must be working
hopefully the rest of the swath of bad stuff spared others as well .
