The wife and I just completed a 3436 mile round trip from Huntington Beach CA to Glacier NP.
Very happy with the trucks comfort and performance. Our overall hand calculated MPG was 20.46 (truck display 21.1) this is a 22 157” 501a Powerboost with tow mirrors and a shell. Lots of 80+ MPH highways and mountain driving.

Pros:
We made it safely
The truck gave us zero problems
All the scenery was fantastic
The smooth ride, interior comfort and the quiet interior
We had plenty of power for passing and the mountains
The Adaptive cruse control and the lane centering are luxuries compared to our older vehicles
Happy with the fuel economy considering the speeds, weight, mountains, etc
The interior and secure bed space with the shell
Power fold mirrors are mandatory for tight mountain driving

Cons:
Overly complicated HVAC controls and adjustments
Slept in the shell one night and the 7.2 inverter/ battery started every 40 minutes to control my CPAP. I was expecting to run the machine all night on the battery. We couldn’t sleep over the muffler noise and I’ll have to figure out a better solution
I have to install a handle on the interior shell hatch for easier closing and figure out how to close the tailgate when I’m in the shell
How to get my wife to take less stuff!

Overall we had a wonderful trip. We took many side trips in Nevada, Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Glacier NP

Beautiful trip. Glad the truck performed well. I just put in an order for a powerboost. As a fellow camper and Cpap user I find a Jackery or comparable power station super helpful. I put one up in my roof top tent with the machine, it's nice, quiet and it's one less thing to worry about. My $.02

You'll need something like this for that CPAP. Then use the PB to charge it the next day.

Buy EcoFlow DELTA Portable Power Station - EcoFlow US

There are a number of different manufacturers for these now so just figure out the power draw for that CPAP for about 10 hours and buy accordingly. This one is 1800 watts so if the CPAP draw is 200 watts an hour, that will run it for 9 hours.

Nice trip!

Love your matching shell!

Last took the family there twenty years ago this July. Oldest son was so impressed with Glazier NP and others parks visited on that trip, he went to work for NPS (National Park System) directly out of college for 8 years out West before switching to National Forestry Service in Northern AZ. for last two years. I don’t think he will ever move back East because he love his work and area he living in so well.

I didn’t understand the con on tailgate closing when the button on remote to open or close. I understand the shell gate has to be up as not to conflict with tailgate operation. As far as wife taking less stuff, we all have to live with that misfortune when traveling with our own wife. …hahahah

Don’t have that option on the my truck, I’ll have to figure out a plan B. I didn’t order the $995 bed package so I have a manual tailgate

First, awesome pics and review. Thanks.

I have a 23 501a powerboost and I'm not sure how the HVAC controls could be easier. Whats bugging you about them?

On the tailgate, you have the clamp pockets, right? A sort of hay hook maybe?

Directing the airflow and wanting to just have outside air not heated or cooled. Seems like I have to take my eyes off of the road too much to make adjustments. I’m old and used to the three dial system.

We are thinking along the same lines for the tailgate. Maybe a 2x2 in the clamp pocket with a rope will work?

lol, got ya. Now I see your conundrum. You can get a soft hook like below and use an existing tailgate bolt or just make a new hole wherever.

Or if you want to be fancy, get a folding boat cleat. I use these for my boat and lots of random things around the house. They last forever, and fold out of the way when not being used. You could use any strap or rope when needed, then it’s out of the way when not needed.

Ah, I haven't bothered with straight outside air yet. This is my first vehicle with auto HVAC and I'm allowing myself to be a little spoiled by it. Set the temp and forget it.

Thinking about it, you might want some leverage. The aluminum tailgate is way lighter than the steel but from that angle, it may still be quite a pull.

Thinking an L shaped bar, or something like a monkey wrench.
