Interestingly, no other trucks on my street were hit. I wonder if the thief knew it was plastic and made for an easier target. Perhaps a benefit of steel gas tanks - thieves know not to drill into them to avoid sparking and creating an explosion....or they're dumb enough to do it anyway but then there would be one less thief in the world. Win-win either way.

Most vehicles now are plastic tanks
Which make a drill and go easy
You can buy on line at plumbing outlets the small valve with drill like threads and a port for a hose or pipe..
Sucks that people resort to this ..
Vice investing gas doing the siphon trick
Now your hit for new tank
I can't say here how irritating this kind of crap is.
Hopefully thief got that gas all over themselves and caught fire
Sucks sucks sucks
As a side note
During hurricane Katrina
I had 3 red 5 gallon gas cans under front of our rv..they were full of diesel fuel
We were in Alabama riding it out.
They were stolen..I relish hoping they poured those in thier gas powered vehicle

Any idea when the few good folks left in CA will have had enough of this and demand change from the folks who are supposed to be putting a stop to this nonsense???
CA is a lost cause. The people in power have the majority brainwashed. The only way this state turns around is for it to hit rock bottom to wake everyone up.

Dude, that sucks! That has to be an insurance claim, for sure.

That State is setting the bar for the dregs of society. Just how low can we go as a society before people start really pushing back on the "offenders"?

It sucks that this happened to you. However, in all my time working in a maintenance environment and drilling into metal myself, I've never created sparks drilling into any metal, steel or otherwise. You're doing something majorly wrong if you are and are probably going through several drill bits a day.

It sucks when you know Hawaii has cheaper gas than you, and every drop has to be shipped to those islands, while in CA we supposedly can refine our own gas.

FYI, your better off drilling into a full metal container or tank. It's not the liquid fuel that will explode or catch fire, the fumes in a empty tank are more likely to explode because they are more volatile than the liquid. In my previous life I was a arson investigator, fire marshal. Now retire and living the good life. Stay safe everyone.

CA is a lost cause. The people in power have the majority brainwashed. The only way this state turns around is for it to hit rock bottom to wake everyone up.
The Feds will never let that happen as the whole country, especially the Midwestern and a lot of the more northerly central western states, are dependent on the big tax revenue provided to federal gov't from this state (global economies are influenced as well). Most people don't understand how much the economies in those regions that we may envy for their better quality of life or lower taxes are heavily subsidized by the Feds, thus from ours (and other big states) tax dollars.

Besides, any benefit from another party taking control will most likely be short lived as history has shown that they will also find a way to steal from you and benefit themselves. That's the nature of politics and big business. Too much money, power and perks which corrupts even those going in with good intentions .

Once in, they (politicians) will do whatever it takes to stay in power. It's very lucrative, has lasting benefits, they're treated like royalty and having the privileges, power and control over others is just too addicting. Why else would they stay in office for decades past the normal retirement age.

Wow that really blows. Next your insurance will only pay to patch your tank, not replace it. Or you could take the insurance money, plug it your self and use the extra cash to fill the tank several times. Looks like it fixable to me...

Bummer. Would one of the metal aftermarket skid plates protect the tank from being drilled?

Same thing happened to me last year. 9:00 am on a Monday morning. They went in over the tire because the truck didn't have well liners, it does now. No gas came out, I only had 1/3 of a tank and they drilled near the top. A cool $1000
