Full screen/Split screen Carplay Toggle Action is Resetting Google Maps

So traveling down the interstate. Navigating with Google Maps being shown full screen in Apple Carplay. Turn coming up. I wanted to check a card on the right (hidden when full screen). Pressing the Carplay contract soft switch (upper left in the Carplay screen) causes Google Maps to reset. Route, next turn, etc. all gone.

You have to start over at Search ... and this can be a hassle when typing is inhibited. Experimenting with it I discovered that whether expanding to full screen or contracting to split screen WHILE NAVIGATING... Carplay closes Google Maps and you have to setup the destination again.

Is this normal behaviour? Anyone else experience this?

Can't say I've experienced this but I'll test on my way home from work today.

Edit - Yep able to reproduce the problem your having @JIMFOUNTAIN . It actually force closes GMaps for me, so I don't know if this is a Ford bug or an Apple bug.

This is a Beta version of Google Maps, I would suspect this will be resolved once it is a widely available update.

Google Maps is straight from the App Store. Version is whatever Apple/Google have pushed out since I downloaded it onto this phone ages ago. Is Apple/Google pushing out updates to some users... And I happen to be a Guinea pig?

I hate to potentially derail but was there a recent update to allow fullscreen carplay?

Google Maps is straight from the App Store. Version is whatever Apple/Google have pushed out since I downloaded it onto this phone ages ago. Is Apple/Google pushing out updates to some users... And I happen to be a Guinea pig?

You aren't a guinea pig, Google doesn't push beta updates via the App Store (unless you sign up for it). So if you downloaded it normally like 99.9% of users you got what they considered a stable build.

That being said, it's possible that whatever the latest version they pushed has a weird bug with full screen. I don't remember Gmaps crashing when I first got full screen Carplay as I showed it off to alot of friends and didn't have issues.

Recent update was in Ford SYNC/APIM SW using FDRS to enable fullscreen carplay. I got tired of waiting for an OTA and wanted the capability prior to my long drive.

Ya that's probably what I didn't pick up on. I wasn't navigating when I showed it off to friends, definitely a weird bug.
