I ordered BAKflip f1 for my 2022, I have an mx4 on my current truck but for me the tri fold work perfectly. The mx4 /f1 don’t have any procedure for open and closing the tail gate which I like.

Hey Jerry, looking at one of these for my ‘23 Lariat PB BAP as well…. Really seems like the best of both worlds for coverage and versatility. I do have a couple questions:I really like my peragon cover. The tri folds would have blocked the bed camera/window and the roll ups are among the easiest to break into and the full flip ups are useless so I had to figure something out. The peragon has a pretty decent lock up towards the cab so you can’t just pry the back corner up until it pops.
It’s easy to fully remove and folded in doesn’t take up much room. It folds into the bed, not out of it so it doesn’t block your view which I really liked. I haven’t encountered not being able to open it if something is underneath but it’s easy to see how it functions so I don’t know how realistic of a problem that is yet.
Now that it’s actually installed, I don’t have regrets on my choice.

The cover opens fine AS LONG as you can push it down from the dead center. You cant push down on the sides I've found out. I've had mine come apart 2 times but I found out that was bad adjustment on the rail guides when it goes to fold up. If you're pushing down and it doesn't open up then the guides are adjusted wrong. The only time I've not been able to open the cover with stuff in the back was when I loaded some 33x12.50 tires and left them in there overnight with the cover locked so I did 2 tires at a time over 2 days. Those took up the space so it wasn't going to open obviously, I climbed in and dragged out the furthest tire. Other than that, if you load it with the cover folded and then pull it closed you'd be fine for the most part. I havn't got anything else stuck but I can see the potential for it.Hey Jerry, looking at one of these for my ‘23 Lariat PB BAP as well…. Really seems like the best of both worlds for coverage and versatility. I do have a couple questions:
1. How much of an issue has the cover opening from the front been in your opinion? Ever got anything stuck up there preventing it opening?
2. Does it keep the bed relatively dry? We will probably need to use the bed on vacations for luggage during travel- and maybe even over night storage occasionally- so I just want to make sure it’s relatively dry and secure.
Thanks for any help you provide!
Wow- thanks for the detailed reply! It's ironic that the unique design of this cover also seems to contribute to it's biggest weaknesses as well....But, after looking for months, I am well aware there is no perfect option. I still really like the flush look of this cover- with the ability to have full visibility while open (and still retain the third option of removing completely). This will be my first truck since I was in college (52 now)- and I really don't know exactly how I will end up utilizing it completely and whether the Peragon's weakness's will be a problem in the end (I'd REALLY like to be able to open it from the tailgate). The cover opens fine AS LONG as you can push it down from the dead center. And when I say it comes apart, it does exactly that. The individual panels will split and then you have to take it off, lay it upside down on the ground and rehook them up. My 2nd time at this I was alot faster since I knew what to do. It was my fault they came apart though. If it comes apart a 3rd time then I'd be concerned because my guide rails are dialed in now.
Relatively dry - yes. Completely dry - no. I got my truck so late in the year it was already getting dark fast and I admit my install wasn't 100% originally and I think the weatherproofing is something I am going to improve on as well. Its hard to tell with the colder weather since ice will stick around longer plus I have a bed rug that tends to hold the moisture until it freezes. Its a little water but essentially along the tailgate, a little on the side and I want to say the front corner but I'm not 100% sure. I had a pair of gloves up there I threw in the corner and when I went for them they were a little wet. I'd have a better idea in the spring time since I have had to scoot the entire cover forward towards the cab a little since my initial install and I haven't noticed the front being wet so that part might be fixed now. For the most part, the bed rug is a little damp in spots but nothing serious.
But overall I still like it and being able to not have the window blocked when I want the bed open is nice. I've had bed fulls of like landscaping rock and other junk and I can use the bed camera to watch it. I haven't had to completely remove it to haul anything yet but if you did its a pretty simple process. I was a little upset when the cover split apart on me but when I realized it was my fault I didn't feel as bad. I still would have liked the undercover armor flex but I wasn't willing to part with the bed cam getting blocked along with the rear window.
Well from the beginning it was between the Bakflip mx4/x2 and the undercover.Wow- thanks for the detailed reply! Thanks again for your input- really valuable to me to get some feedback from a user who has been living with it for a while!
So...Last question: If you had it to do over again- would you pick a different cover- and if so- which one?
Do you have one on your truck now?Diamondback cover for me anytime.![]()
Thanks Jerry! After doing some more looking, I had all but decided on the Leer650- but then stumbled back on the Peragon site again and see that they have updated their top of the line "Limited HDx"; It looks like they have designed in two rear levers for locking and opening such that it no longer requires a key- and can be opened from the tailgate. With that, my only issue with the cover is that has the possibility of a difficult opening should something in the front of the cab block the panels- but the inner opening panels also come with the benefit that they don't block the rear window at all when open- which is nice:Well from the beginning it was between the Bakflip mx4/x2 and the undercover.
- The mx4 I don't like how it touches the back window, plus blocks the window.
- The X4s roll up was considered because it didnt block the window but those seem to have some issues with the inside lining coming apart.
- The undercover armor flex I think looks amazing, plus it has bed coating lining which I thought was nifty. BUT it blocks the back window + camera.
While tossing those around for awhile I found the peragon and it seemed to fit more boxes than it ruined so that's why I ended up going that route. I'd still go the peragon unless undercover figures out how to not block the bed camera atleast but thats unlikely.
I think I got the function to 100% now and all I need to do is a spend a little time when the weather breaks to address the weather protection with some added weather-stripping and I'll be happy. When I was doing my install I was getting rained on so it was a bit rushed.
Also, I know a lot of people complain about the strap flying around and not being where you need it to be when you want to close the cover. Bedrug takes to velcro pretty good so I was planning to sew some velcro to the end of my strap so I can throw it against the side wall or something. If your not doing a bed rug then maybe something magnetic to consider and that solves that problem.
yeah thats what I have, the HDX. I ended up stacking some discounts on mine and got about $250/$300 off or something like that. Improvements are nice, I guess short people can open the bed cover now tooThanks Jerry!
