Ya, you pretty much have to strip the whole bumper down, taking the air damn off first. Usually easier to just take the whole bumper off so you can work on the whole thing easier. You bought the cheapest XL trim piece of, which you find that textured black on all the lower spec trim pieces. The smooth black/gray is the sport packages, then chrome is chrome.

Yeah I'm not a big fan of the smooth gray down there. But I got it on. It's doable without removing the valence. You have to remove the active air dam to access the clips and either snap the old ones off or manhandle them around until they free up. The valence has two nuts you can loosen to make it easier to remove as well, and it'll pull the two black covers above the trimpiece along with the license plate box trim bit all out together.

I've got a swarfworks license plate holder I gotta install but I was outside for a couple hours wrestling with this (trying my best not to remove anything) and it is simultaneously snowing and sub 30 degrees.

There are 4 of these clips, where I couldn't get the outer edges off without just breaking the plastic around it, but the inner ones were removable. They just have a single tab you push in on then pry up on.

I gotta pull the rear tailgate cover off and mess with the applique cause the thing isn't sealing evenly around the edges again. Or throw some adhesive on it or something but that's besides the point. Exhaust tip has been swapped out with the Ford performance black tip as well since these photos were taken.

Very nice. I want to do the same with my Rapid Red Platinum. Think Ill leave the lettering on the tailgate though.
